Foundation S1 Finale Revealed an Unexpected Plot Twist about Salvor

Foundation on Apple TV+ has reached its Season 1 conclusion with a big surprise and laid the base for a bigger story for Season 2.

Based on Isaac Asimov’s acclaimed sci-fi book series of the same name, the series revolves around grand things at play, including the fall of an Empire. The premise of the series kicks off as a mathematician, Hari Seldon, forms the Foundation to preserve the best of humanity for future civilizations.

The final episode of the series, titled The Leap, saw the Empire crumbling into chaos.

Day and Dusk are conflicted, but Demerzel makes things easier for them by snapping Dawn’s neck, killing him, and confirming her loyalty to the Cleonic dynasty. If only she knew, as we later find out, that none of the clones are pure copies of Cleon anymore.

Hari Seldon’s plan to create a new civilization is revealed, and he now needs the Foundation to team up with Anacreons and Thespins to create a world away from the darkness.

However, some of the most shocking plot twists in the finale were the ones involving Salvor and Gaal.

The big revelation for Salvor came when she learned the identities of her biological parents—Gaal and Raych. This, in turn, explained her visions and the inherited psychic abilities from Gaal.

The episode ended with a 138-year time jump in the future and saw Gaal return to Synnax, her home planet, which had been hit with an ecological disaster and hence is now almost underwater.

Gaal, who saves Salvor by pulling her out of the pod, is shocked to learn that her frozen egg was used to create Salvor. Now that the duo are united and Season 2 has already been confirmed, Gaal and Salvor will return for more galactic adventures.

In an interview with TVLine, Leah Harvey, who plays Salvor, talked about the mother-daughter dynamic,

I was one of the lucky ones who knew from the very start that Gaal and Salvor were connected and going to cross paths. It was a tricky task to keep the secret from fellow cast members. Most could see a strong connection between myself and Lou Llobell (Gaal) off-camera, which might have given it away! We did try our best to keep it on the down low.

Harvey also talked about the duo moving forward and Season 2 expectations,

I know where it goes from here because we’ve already started work on Season 2, so I don’t want to spoil it too much! But I will say that these two characters are complete strangers, and we will get to dive into how they navigate this new relationship, as well as the world around them bringing new challenges.
