What happens at the end of Fargo Season 3?

The third season ends with a ticking clock, an increasingly dark interrogation room, and an enigmatic smile from Gloria.

1. Does Dollard figure out Varga’s scam? Does Nikki die?

Fargo’s third season has a very cryptic ending. The finale is the strongest of the three seasons and ends season three on a very bright note. In a clever turn of events, Dollard, aptly named the one with a sharp eye, finally unravels Varga’s deceitful scheme and shares his findings with Gloria.

Meanwhile, Varga orchestrates a cunning plan to transfer the company ownership to Goldfarb, who is later revealed to be Varga’s criminal partner. Upon reaching his office, Emmit is blindsided by Goldfarb’s takeover. To retrieve his valuable hard disks, Varga meets with Nikki to exchange ransom money.

But to his shock, Nikki and Mr. Wrench are waiting to ambush him. Varga manages to escape, but not without consequences. Seeking vengeance for the death of Raymond, Nikki sets her sights on Emmit and lures him to a deserted road.

When a state trooper intervenes, the two kill each other in a Mexican-standoffish scene. A crying Emmit narrates the entire ordeal to his wife. The story jumps five years in the future, where we see Emmit’s family happy and well. He is shot by Mr. Wrench, who exacts revenge on Nikki’s death.

2. What is Mr. Wrench’s role in Season 3?

Meet Mr. Wrench, the infamous hitman from season 1 who was once paired with Adam Goldberg’s character, Mr. Numbers. He may have only appeared briefly as a young boy in season 2, but his role in tying together all three seasons of the series seems unimaginable.

Yet, in true Fargo fashion, where every detail is meticulously intertwined, Mr. Wrench is the ultimate link between them all, especially regarding the extensive crime network that stretches across the Midwest.

With his expertise in handling troublesome officers like Rob McElhenney, Paul ensures that God’s divine reckoning is delivered relatively. As seen in one particular event, he doesn’t hesitate to directly unleash it on unapologetic criminals like Yuri, who foolishly crossed his path.

In the series’ most overtly mystical sequence, Paul Marrane hints that the wildfire-like chaos of the season isn’t burning completely out of control; there are still forces around to help contain it.

In a sense, Paul recruits Nikki and Mr. Wrench to help mete out a little biblical justice, sending them on their way with vengeance on their minds.

It’s an ambiguous ending that thematically props up the rest of the season, unlike Fargo years 1 and 2.
