Ahsoka Episodes 1 & 2 Recap & Ending Explained: Is Admiral Thrawn Alive?

Ahsoka episodes 1 and 2 set up a dramatic confrontation between Ahsoka and the forces assembled by Morgan Elsbeth, with Grand Admiral Thrawn as the prize. The greatest of the Imperial Grand Admirals, Thrawn was Palpatine’s top strategist and military tactician.

He disappeared shortly before the events of the first Star Wars movie, in the epic ending of Star Wars Rebels, when Ezra Bridger hatched a desperate plot to defeat him. The Jedi Padawan summoned a flock of purrgil, Star Wars’ space whales, to spirit Thrawn’s flagship into hyperspace. He’s been missing ever since, and so has Ezra, who was also aboard the flagship.

Much to the delight of fans, Grand Admirals, Thrawn is very much alive.

6. Star Wars Reveals in Ahsoka Episodes 1 & 2

The first two episodes of Ahsoka have revealed a lot of new information about the Star Wars universe. Here are 7 of the biggest reveals:

  • Grand Admiral Thrawn is in Another Galaxy.

According to Morgan Elsbeth, one of Thrawn’s closest allies, the purrgil migration paths take them beyond the confines of the galaxy and on to another, to a distant place called Peridea. Lady Morgan believes this is where Grand Admiral Thrawn is. She believes he is banished to another universe, unable to return under his power.

Thrawn’s last appearance in the Star Wars canon was in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Thrawn and Ezra Bridger were sucked into a mysterious hyperspace anomaly in the series finale.

Thrawn is being held captive by a race of beings from another galaxy. These beings are not yet known but are clearly influential and technologically advanced.

It is not clear how Thrawn came to be in the possession of these beings or what their plans for him are. However, they are interested in his knowledge and his abilities.

  • Morgan Elsbeth Has Found The Route To Thrawn

In another shocking twist, Ahsoka episodes 1 and 2 reveal the Star Wars galaxy was visited by beings from Peridea millennia ago. These visitors left behind a star map Morgan uses to chart a course to Peridea. Looking at the star map, it’s reasonable to assume these extragalactic aliens discovered hyperspace by studying the perils and followed their migration paths across the void between the galaxies.

Now, Lady Morgan intends to do the same in reverse.

  • Morgan Elsbeth Has Created A Ship To Reach Thrawn

Lady Morgan’s work has been underway for years, taking advantage of her secret factories on Han Solo’s home world Corellia, a shipyard world in the galactic core. Imperial sympathizers have secretly extracted hyperdrive cores from Super Star Destroyers, some of the most potent hyperdrive units ever built.

This must have been a massive project, given that the Empire only had 13 SSDs by the Battle of Endor.

  • Baylan Believes Finding Thrawn Will Give Him “Power”

The second episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka provided significant new revelations about the show’s antagonist, Moff Gideon, and his obsession with finding Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Gideon, who was last seen wielding the Darksaber in The Mandalorian, reveals he has taken on the guise of Morgan Elsbeth on the planet Corvus to mine beskar secretly. But more shockingly, he explains he is frantically searching for Thrawn, who disappeared years ago after the events of Rebels.

Gideon believes acquiring Thrawn will give him the key to restoring the Galactic Empire and his power. As one of the Empire’s most brilliant strategic minds, Thrawn would bring legitimacy and tactical expertise to Gideon’s splinter Imperial faction. Thrawn’s reputation and skills would cement Gideon’s authority over all other Imperial remnants.

  • There Seems To Be A Link Between The Nightsisters & Peridea

The first two episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka hinted at a mysterious connection between the Nightsister witches of Dathomir and the forest planet Peridea. Ahsoka encountered abandoned Nightsister ruins on Peridea, and the Armorer suggested the world may hold a “dark secret” related to the witches.

Additionally, the inhabitants of Peridea seem to wield unexplained magical powers similar to Nightsister magic. Finding the truth about Peridea’s past may unlock new secrets about the Nightsisters and their little-known history.

  • Ahsoka, Sabine & Hera Uncover The Empire’s Plot

Unfortunately for Morgan Elsbeth, her plans have drawn the attention of Ahsoka Tano, and Ahsoka is not without high-level friends in the New Republic. Sabine can discover links between an assassin droid and Morgan’s factories on Corellia, and Ahsoka and Hera head to the shipyard to investigate.

They swiftly discover Imperial loyalists helping ship the SSDs’ hyperdrive units out to Lady Morgan. They take down this cell, and Hera attaches a tracker to the ship transporting the hyperdrive unit to the Eye of Sion.

  • Baylan Foresees A Confrontation With Ahsoka

The first two episodes of Ahsoka have established that Moff Gideon, under the alias of Morgan Elsbeth, sees an inevitable confrontation with Ahsoka Tano in his future. Upon learning that Ahsoka is on Corvus investigating his bear mining operation, Gideon ominously states that their paths were always destined to cross.

He believes the will of the Force will bring them into conflict as he works to rebuild the Empire while Ahsoka aids the fledgling New Republic. Gideon seems sure that he and the former Jedi will clash as opposing forces on a colliding course. As the Ahsoka series continues, their brewing rivalry is shaping to be a significant driving force.
