Each year, Yahoo! Japan recognizes artists in various categories for achieving significant search volumes on Yahoo Search. This creates a measurable impact of what people search for online as well as their behaviour and interests offline.
The results of the 5th Yahoo! Japan Search Awards were announced on Wednesday. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba took the award in the anime category and Weathering With You took the film category. One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda won in the author category, and Yuki Kaji won in the voice actor category.
Weekly Shonen Jump manager in-boss Hiroyuki Nakano received the award on behalf of Eiichiro Oda. When inquired as to whether One Piece gonna find it’s ending soon or not, Hiroyuki Nakano said:
“Yes, we are Shueisha want One Piece to continue forever, but the story is getting more exciting as it heads towards its climax, so please keep searching for Eiichiro Oda and One Piece.”
Eiichiro Oda left a handwritten message saying:
“Oda is the word I’m most afraid to search! Eek! But thanks so much!”
“In Weathering With You, the protagonist Hodaka submits questions to Yahoo! Answers and gets worthless responses. I have to thank Yahoo! for giving me the approval to depict Yahoo! Answers without even knowing how it was going to be used.”Weathering With You chief Makoto Shinkai likewise left a video message
Yuki Kaji (Eren Yeager’s voice in Demon Slayer)left a video message, saying:
“I’m happy about people searching me to get to know more about me, but I’d also be happy if I became a gateway for people to get into voice actor and anime culture.”
The winners are decided based on the number of searches for a specific keyword contrasted with the prior year. The individuals and brands that get the most noticeable increment in search volumes compared to the previous year gets awarded. Although Yahoo! doesn’t release search volume (SV) numbers, it’s still interesting to see the most searched keywords used in each category.
