Ted K Trailer – A Deeper Dive into the Unabomber’s Disturbing Mind

When talking about the thin line between genius and madness blurring, there’s one name that pops up as an example each time – Ted Kaczynski, aka the Unabomber.

The mathematical genius turned terrorist’s life and philosophies have been subjected to many films/documentaries. The latest one is director Tony Stone’s Ted K, starring Sharlto Copley as Kaczynski.

Super LTD just dropped the film’s official red band trailer, and it dives deeper into the mind of America’s most notorious serial killers/terrorists.

The trailer shows the film’s stunning visuals, along with Kaczynski’s secluded home in the mountains. Copley’s voice narrates in the background, scratching only the surface of the domestic terrorist’s ideals and disturbing beliefs that led to his serial bombings.

There are shots that show us things from his perspective as he starts typing in the Unabomber manifesto. He talks of how modern industrial society is harming nature with snippets of harmful chemicals/herbicides, oil tanks, logging machines, etc., followed by him testing out his bombs.

His motives aren’t hidden as Copley’s Kaczynski voices it clearly, saying he wants to kill some people as he starts shipping his bombs off to their destinations.

Followed by a montage of his attacks and capture, dubbed as the ‘the biggest manhunt in U.S. History,’ the trailer ends with a chilling line, “My motive? I want to change the world.”

If you aren’t aware who the Unabomber is, this line from Good Will Hunting perfectly summarises Kaczynski as the genius who went mad,

In the 1960s, there was a young man that graduated from the University of Michigan. Did some brilliant work in mathematics. Specifically bounded harmonic functions. Then he went on to Berkeley. He was assistant professor. Showed amazing potential. Then he moved to Montana, and blew the competition away.

Yes, literally. Kaczynski believed that modern industrial society was destroying the individual and straying away from how humans developed in the wild. He believed that society had to be violently overthrown and hence began bombing people.

The name ‘Unabomber’ derived from the fact that his main targets were Universities and Airlines – UNABOM.

Alongside Copley, the cast includes Drew Powell, Amber Rose Mason, Travis Bruyer, Megan Folsom, Andrew Senn, and Keith Barber.

Ted K first premiered at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival in March 2021, with its simultaneous theatrical and digital release set for February 18, 2022.
