Warner Brothers Pictures has just released the first trailer of Eraser: Reborn, a reboot of the 1966 action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The iconic action flick featured Schwarzenegger as John Kreger, a US Marshall specializing in erasing witnesses by faking their death to keep them out of any trouble.
Directed by Chuck Russell, also known for directing The Mask, the original film became a massive commercial success but did not gain much critical acclaim. The recently released trailer of the reboot does not feature Arnold Schwarzenegger, but seems to be quite true to the original storyline.
This time, Dominic Sherwood is seen reprising Arnold’s titular role. Sherwood plays US Marshall Mason Pollard and he has been assigned to Rina Kimura, the wife of a crime boss.
Other prominent actors who star in the upcoming reboot include Jacky Lai, McKinley Belcher III, and Eddie Ramos. There is a subtle tribute to the original film, including a particular CGI scene involving hippos, alluding to a scene with alligators in the original film.
The film is being directed by John Pogue. Pogue’s last film, Deep Blue Sea 3, was also made under the banner of Warner Brothers. In the 90-second trailer, Pogue creates the atmosphere for a classic Schwarzenegger film with classic shout-outs and elaborate chase sequences.
Eraser: Reborn will premiere on HBO Max in Fall 2022 and hits digital, blu-ray and DVD on June 7, 2022.
