Fast & Furious’ Vin Diesel has revealed that the script of Riddick 4: Furya is all ready and good to go when the filming opportunity arises. Diesel plays the silver-eyed Richard B Riddick in The Chronicles of Riddick, a beloved franchise among sci-fi fans and gamers.
In conversation with Games Radar, Diesel responded positively to the possibility of the fourth film that follows up from Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick, even adding in how he was only recently wearing his Furyion t-shirt.
According to Diesel, director David Twohy has already written up the script for Riddick 4, with Australia as the filming destination.
Riddick 4: Furya will not just serve as a sequel to the three films before it, but will also be a fitting addition to the game space, Diesel comments. The two games in question are the acclaimed Escape from Butcher Bay (2004) and its 2009 counterpart Assault on Dark Athena.
The Chronicles of Riddick which starts with Pitch Black, is set in the landscape of a planet taken over by monsters that hunt at night. Riddick, who makes a prison break in the first movie, joins the team that hunts these monsters. He eventually has to fight off his adversaries in the Necromonger fleet, after which he becomes their Lord Marshall.
Since Pitch Black was a low budget film, creating a franchise out of it was not chalked up. However, given its emerging status as a cult classic at the time, the prefix of “The Chronicles of Riddick” was attached to Pitch Black to give it more continuity.
The franchise may not be huge on the box office, but its DVD sales have kept up the hopes for more sequels to come. The same has influenced the decision of making a fourth Riddick movie.
However, Riddick 4 has been in the talks since 2014. Taking into consideration Diesel’s commitments to the upcoming filming of Fast & Furious 10, as well as the unannounced date, schedule or cast for Riddick 4, it is yet to be seen if the movie makes it to the screens in the near future.
