When they were fighting a rogue vampire, Jeanne and Lucius showed up before them. They believe that the book left behind by the blue moon vampire is the reason behind the sudden spread of curses in the town.

1. Episode 3 Preview & Speculation
Episode 3 of The Case Study of Vanitas, titled “Fangs that Lay Bare Blood,” will tell us about Vanitas’ plans to keep continuing with his works as a vampire doctor and avoiding Jeanne at the same time.
I don’t think Jeanne will hesitate to kill Vanitas the next time she catches hold of him. So, the only way out is to prove his innocence by treating a curse bearer in front of everyone.
Since the whole purpose of creating the Book of Vanitas is to take revenge on the vampires, even I find it hard to believe that Vanitas has no evil intentions behind his deeds. But then again, Noe has no other option but to trust Vanitas in order to save Amelia.
Moreover, Jeanne isn’t the only threat that he needs to be careful of. Johann warned Date that Lord Ruthven is after the Book of Vanitas, and Vanitas may get targeted anytime.

Episode 3 of the The Case Study of Vanitas anime, titled “Fangs that Lay Bare Blood”, has been released on Saturday, Jul 17, 2021.
Since this anime runs on a weekly schedule, new episode releases are seven days apart.

3. Episode 2 Recap
I. An Unexpcted Invitation
In Episode 2, Noe wakes up locked in a cell to find that he passed out in the road, and the guards caught him. Their belongings have already been confiscated, including the Book of Vanitas.
The two were quarreling about the mess they have got into when a guard opens the gate and informs them about their invitation to Count Orlok’s place.
They head right to their invitation, where they aren’t well accepted and rather treated as a threat. The only reason for summoning them was that the Count has no clue how to use or even open the Book of Vanitas.
II. To Save a Friend
It seems Orlok has little faith in Vanitas’ claim of being a vampire doctor. He completely rejects the idea of curing curse bearers and bluntly says that the only way of treating the rogue vampires is execution.
Moreover, he has kept Amelia imprisoned desire of her being cured by the Book of Vanitas. This reminds Noe of his friend who got executed by Bourreau for having the curse of the Blue Moon.
Noe doesn’t want to go through the trauma of losing a friend again, so he requests Orlok to give them one day to prove their claims. The only way out is to capture a curse bearer alive and treat him/her in front everyone.
Later, Dante arrives to give them the intel about a rogue vampire who has taken 12 lives in the last few days. It’s Thomas Berneux, an extremely powerful vampire who came from beyond the barrier two months ago.
III. The Crimson Gauntlet Wielder
While pursuing Thomas, Vanitas comes across Jeanne and Lucius, who believe that the Book of Vanitas is responsible for the sudden onset of curses in Paris. Lucius wants to destroy the cursed grimoire to save his brother from the curse.
Jeanne turns out to be a wielder of the Crimson Gauntlet. She belongs to the army of 1000 vampires who sided with humans in the Great War and slew their own kind.
Thanks to Noe’s presence of mind, they somehow managed to escape with minor injuries. But, how long will they have to keep running? Can they ever prove their innocence? We have to wait for the upcoming episodes to find that out.

5. About The Case Study of Vanitas
The Case Study of Vanitas manga is created by Jun Mochizuka. It started serialization in the Monthly Gangan Joker magazine in December 2015. It is receiving an anime adaptation in July 2021.
Noe, a young vampire, is in search of a cursed book called The Book of Vanitas. However, on his flight to Paris, he comes face to face with Vanitas and realizes that he is a self-proclaimed vampire doctor.
Somehow Noe ends up as Vanitas’ partner to heal vampires who are going feral under an evil influence.
