Episode 4 Preview & Speculation
Episode 4, Night of Mocking Masks, will mark the beginning of Vanitas and Noe’s journey in Altus Paris.
As the title suggests, Dominique will take them to a masked party, and I am sure that Vanitas will have a hard time hiding his true identity.
Since Noe met Dominique after a long time, we will most like get to see flashbacks of Noe’s early life, when Dominique’s grandfather took him in.

1. Hellfire Witch vs. Vanitas
Episode 3 continues with the fight between Vanitas and Jeanne, the Hellfire Witch. He bluffed about his identity to buy enough time until Thomas Berneux’s paralysis wears off.
His strategy was to defeat a monster with the help of another and then cure Thomas before he causes any further damage. Thankfully, Orlok’s minions witnessed the incident, so there’s no need to capture him.
What follows next astonishes everyone; Vanitas confesses his love towards Jeanne and forcibly kisses her before everyone. Disgusted and ashamed of what happened, Jeanne left at once vowing to kill him in their next encounter.
A little later, Thomas is found dead in a lonely alley; and it seems that someone is targeting Vanitas’s patients. However, Vanitas has done enough to prove his innocence before everyone, and Orlok agrees to help him.
2. The Parade of Charlatan
While discussing the current situation in Paris, Vanitas reveals about the Parade of Charlatan, something that his patients claimed to witness before turning into curse-bearers.
However, Amelia has completely forgotten about any such incident.
In turns out that Noe belongs to the extinct Archiviste clan, who possesses the power to look into anyone’s memory by drinking their blood.
He was completely terrified when he comes across the Charlatan Parate while exploring deep down Amelia’s memory.
3. Stepping into Altas Paris
Before he could explain anything, Noe’s childhood friend, Dominique, shows up and takes him away to Altus, the Vampire world. Vanitas appears out of nowhere and grabs Noe’s hand, thereby tagging along with them to the other world.
How will this new journey turn out? Can Vanitas keep his identity hidden? We have to wait for the next episode to find that out.

The Case Study of Vanitas manga is created by Jun Mochizuka. It started serialization in the Monthly Gangan Joker magazine in December 2015. It is receiving an anime adaptation in July 2021.
Noe, a young vampire, is in search of a cursed book called The Book of Vanitas. However, on his flight to Paris, he comes face to face with Vanitas and realizes that he is a self-proclaimed vampire doctor.
