Episode 9 of ‘Urusei Yatsura Season 2’ is titled “Open the Door Part 2.” In this episode, Lum, Ataru, Inaba and Shinobu run away from the other time bunnies.
Inaba introduces the group to the Factory of Fate, where each of them creates their ideal future. While Lum wants to be married to Ataru, Ataru wishes for a harem. After Ataru visits his perfect future, he realizes how horrible he treats Lum, causing her to leave him.
Meanwhile, Shinobu merely wishes for the future to remain the same. Inaba is amused at Shinobu’s wish and agrees with her point of view.

2. Episode 10 Speculation
As Ataru and Lum browse various futures, they eventually discover one where the two get married. Since that particular door to the future has collapsed to the floor, it is unclear whether it can happen. However, this adventure has vastly changed Ataru’s perception of an ideal future.
Although Ataru finds it difficult to stay loyal to Lum, he now knows the consequences of leaving her. Moreover, a harem like Ataru wants is not at all practical. Lum is satisfied that there exists a future where the two get married and is, therefore, still hopeful.
Lum may get even more picky and annoying with Ataru now that she knows he may marry him. In contrast, Ataru may try to treat Lum better, knowing that his dreams of a harem are impossible.
3. Recap of Episode 9
Lum and Ataru wander into a desolate world filled with sand and gangsters. In this world, Ataru and Shinobu lead the gangsters and rob Lum of food. However, Mendo acts as the hero and takes down Ataru. The group immediately leaves the world after seeing how dramatic everything is.
Inaba teleports everyone to the Factory of Fate, where he blows some glass into a fire. The group follows Inaba’s instructions to create their door knobs where they can make their ideal future. However, the other rabbits catch the group before they can enter the door.
Lum drops her doorknob into the abyss, and it burns away. Ataru sneaks into his ideal future and spots the harem in a one-bedroom apartment. All the girls are complaining about the small space in the room. In that future, Ataru treated Lum like garbage to have his harem.
Ataru destroys the door of that future and runs from Lum’s attacks. Shinobu saves Inaba and hides from the other bunnies. Shinobu hides Inaba in her future while Lum and Ataru destroy multiple doors during their chase. Inaba wakes up in a future where everything is just like the present.
Inaba is amused at the state of everything, and Shinobu agrees. Lum finally catches up to Ataru and gets grabbed by the other bunnies. The bunnies unlock another large iron door, creating a new batch of futures. In the middle of the falling doors, Ataru falls into a future where he marries Lum.
Ataru desperately tries to save the door while the other bunnies chase them down. Inaba shows them the door they entered from and takes them to the present. Shinobu tells Inaba to come with them, but Inaba bids her farewell. The next day, Inaba visits Shinobu for a cup of tea as they discuss the state of things.

Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi. It has a total of 374 chapters and was published from 1978 to 1987. Its anime adaptation received 195 episodes from 1981 to 1986. A new anime adaptation with selected stories began airing in October 2022.
In the series, a humanoid alien race invades the Earth but agrees that if the protagonist wins in a game of tag, they will leave it unharmed. Ataru wins against the alien girl, Lum.
Lum misunderstands and thinks Ataru is proposing marriage, and starts living with him and joins his high school. Ataru is a trouble magnet and gets stuck in weird situations pretty often.
