Ataru gets trapped in a love triangle in episode 1 of Urusei Yatsura titled “Young Love on the Run.”

The classic harem is back, and it’s better than ever. The animation is great, and so is the coloring. The episode was very well done.

The voice actor did a great job as well. Seeing the cast, it was obvious that it would be great. The characters aren’t anything great, but given the silly premise, you can’t expect more.

However, I do hope that we get to see some development.

Episode 2 Speculations

Lum will up stay by Ataru’s side in episode 2 of Urusei Yatsura. The fun has just begun, and we have a long way to go. It will be interesting to see what new trick Lum will use to keep Ataru away from Shinobu.

Ataru is an unlucky guy whose situation is something every boy would wish to be in. He needs to find ways to stop Lum from bothering him. The next episode might adopt a different chapter from the unusual manga order, just like its predecessor.

Episode 1 Recap

A large number of UFOs surround Earth. In Japan, Ataru’s girlfriend is breaking up with him, but after some buttering, she agrees to give him one more chance.

However, he starts looking at another girl after making the promise. She dumps him. He meets a small man named Sakuranbo, who is a traveling monk. Suddenly a horde of government men gather around him. He goes home to find a huge man at his home waiting for him.

The alien has a condition before invading Earth, they are going to challenge a random human picked up by their computer for a game of tag. If they lose, they will go back. Suddenly, a beautiful lady shows up. Her name is Lum, and she is the one whom Ataru will face.

She is the daughter of the boss of aliens. Ataru has to defeat her by grabbing both her horns within ten days. The game will start from the next day onwards.

The next day, the stadium is set, and both the players are ready for the match. Ataru starts the game, but he fails to grab hold of her. He tries hard but fails every time. Over the next nine days, he keeps on failing and failing miserably. Now, only one day is left, and Earth is gone.

Ataru is frustrated, but Shinobu promises that she will marry him if he wins. He gets very excited. On the final day, the match starts, and this time as well, he fails to catch her. However, after some minor accidents, Lum’s bra falls, and seeing the opportunity, Ataru successfully grabs her horns, winning the game.

Lum gets attracted to Ataru for some reason. She decides to marry him. She misunderstands Ataru’s excitement for marriage with Shinobu as a proposal. She hangs around with him while he tries to be with Shinobu.

Shinobu gets angry at him for all this. Ataru sends Lum away by saying he is divorced. She goes away but instead starts keeping an eye on him from her spaceship and ensures Ataru doesn’t contact Shinobu in any way.

Lum cuts the phone connection, so Ataru decides to meet up with Shinobu. Lum cuts away the electricity around the city, but they still manage to meet up. Seeing this, Lum crashes her ship onto them, grabbing hold of Ataru.

Shinobu leaves him. Ataru ends up with an over-obsessed alien lover.

About Urusei Yatsura

Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi. It has a total of 374 chapters and was published from 1978 to 1987. Its anime adaptation received 195 episodes from 1981 to 1986. A new anime adaptation with selected stories began airing in October 2022.

In the series, a humanoid alien race invades the Earth but agrees that if the protagonist wins in a game of tag, they will leave it unharmed. Ataru wins against the alien girl, Lum.

Lum misunderstands and thinks Ataru is proposing marriage, and starts living with him and joins his high school. Ataru is a trouble magnet and gets stuck in weird situations pretty often.
