What’s next for Amber Heard? Is she still part of Aquaman 2?

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s trial had taken the entertainment industry and the online public domain by storm. From educative rebuttals to memes, everyone had something to say about the situation, even resulting in the case being adapted into its own film.

While this case created opportunities for others, the same cannot be said for Amber Heard. It seems like the actor was just inches from being completely dropped from her big project, Aquaman 2, and isn’t currently being approached for any other roles.

So, what’s next for Amber Heard? Is she still part of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Has she signed any new movies?

Despite reshoots, Amber Heard’s scenes in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have not been cut, and she is still part of the film. While there have been no official announcements, her future projects may include In the Fire and Run Away with Me.

Let’s explore this in more detail!

Amber Heard in Aquaman

DC and Warner Bros’ stance on Amber Heard’s involvement has been firm right from the beginning—whatever the outcome of the trial, Heard would continue being a part of Aquaman 2.

A few months ago, it was announced that Aquaman would be carrying out some reshoots. Some believed this would include minimizing scenes with Heard’s Mera, who is Aquaman’s love interest.

However, with Warner Bros trying to lower DC’s overall budget, they have asked the film’s director, James Wan, to cut reshooting costs as spending has already crossed $205 million. This means that Heard’s scenes may not have been cut from the movie, as there are no resources left to reshoot and correct.

It’s safe to say that Heard will be a part of Aquaman 2, but her involvement in future DC projects is subject to change.

In many trial-related statements, Heard has expressed that she is now blacklisted in the industry and isn’t being offered any roles. While it is unknown to what extent this is true, there have been very few reports about any future projects of hers.

In April 2022, Heard did share a picture on Instagram chronicling the end of her shoot for In the Fire, a period-thriller directed by Conor Allyn. However, no other details about the film have been released since.

Another project that Heard was attached to is the romantic thriller Run Away with Me. Details of this film were released in 2018, and the trail has grown cold ever since. It’s possible that the film met a dead end and isn’t in production anymore.

As such, Heard doesn’t seem to be part of any projects actively in production other than Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

About Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a 2023 American superhero film based on the DC character Aquaman. Produced by DC Studios, Atomic Monster, and the Safran Company, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is the sequel to Aquaman (2018), and the 15th and final installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

The film was directed by James Wan from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry / Aquaman, alongside Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Randall Park, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison, Martin Short, and Nicole Kidman.

In the film, Arthur must work with his half-brother Orm (Wilson) to prevent Black Manta (Abdul-Mateen II) from killing his family and using the cursed Black Trident to overheat the world while searching for the lost seventh kingdom of the seas.
