Uncle Scar Too Had His Reasons, Scar’s Tragic Backstory Teased

Kevin Harrison Jr. teases the backstory of Scar in the upcoming prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King. The film will explore Scar’s tragic backstory and how he became the evil villain.

Barry Jenkins, the acclaimed filmmaker of Moonlight, will direct the new Disney movie showing Mufasa’s journey from a young prince to a king and his strained relationship with his brother Taka, who later becomes Scar and is voiced by Kelvin Harrison Jr.

The voice cast includes Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Kani as Rafiki, and Aaron Pierre as Mufasa.

The voice actor speaks to Fandango while promoting his new movie Chevalier and shares details about Scar’s personality in the Mufasa: The Lion King story.

He says that Scar is “still very, very spicy” but also “the most adorable young lion” you’ll ever see. Check out his full remarks or watch the video below:

We’re going to get to really get a backstory to Scar and he is hilarious. He is still very, very spicy. He is also the sweetest, the sweetest young lion you also ever meet, too. So it’s going to be fun seeing the relationship between Scar and Mufasa. So that’s what I can say.

Mufasa: The Lion King will focus on Mufasa’s life and how he became the king of the Pride Lands. The prequel seems to be based on Disney’s 1994 book, A Tale of Two Brothers, which tells the story of Mufasa and Scar and how they became enemies through Rafiki’s narration to Simba.

The first Mufasa: The Lion King footage was shown at the 2022 D23 Expo, revealing Mufasa arriving at the Pride Lands after he lost his parents in a flood when he was a cub.

Mufasa: The Lion King will mainly focus on Mufasa, but Scar’s backstory is perhaps more fascinating story that the prequel will tell.

It’ll be curious to see how Scar changed from “the most adorable young lion” to the jealous brother who murdered Mufasa to take the crown. It probably concerns how their parents favored Mufasa and called him Taka, which means “garbage” in Swahili.

While Mufasa’s backstory might be a little more expected, Scar’s role as a villain leaves more space for his past to be full of surprises and shocks.

However, fans still have to wait for one more year before the prequel releases and enlightens us about Scar’s troubled past.
