The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has been in development for the past three years, and I’m sure some of us have even forgotten that the game exists, thanks to a lack of information and updates. It’s evident that the game has had a bumpy development process, but Ubisoft has finally shared some details about the game’s development.
The Sands of Time Remake was revealed back in 2020 at the Ubisoft Forward event and was met with a lot of criticism. Fans of the franchise were especially unhappy with how outdated the game looked, but developers assured them that the final product would look much better. Since then, the game has been stuck in development hell with no updates until now.
A new post on the official Ubisoft website, featuring a Q&A session with Sands of Time Remake’s director Michael McIntyre and producer Jean-Francois Naud, provided lackluster updates about the game’s development stage, revealing that the game is in conception right now.
“We’re in conception right now. Since we took over the project, we’ve been looking at feedback from the community and finding our own way of delivering the game. Now, we’re building up the team, defining the priorities, putting prototypes together, testing elements, and looking at how we can include community feedback in the development as well,” Naud said.
Players are not happy with this update, as it has been a long time since the game was last shown. To add more salt to the wound, they also confirmed that players won’t be hearing about the game this year and that it will not be featured in next month’s Ubisoft Forward. In addition to that, they mentioned that they had no plans to remake other Prince of Persia titles at the moment.
While the update is very disappointing for fans of the franchise, the developers reassured that the project was very much alive and that a lot of the original mechanics will be there but will also be refined to make the game feel more balanced. The update isn’t what players expected, but it’s better than being radio silent at this point.
