Two Crew Members Sustained Injuries On Set Of The Expendables 4

Just a few weeks in, production on The Expendables 4 has already been disrupted due to onset accidents that injured two crew members.

The Sylvester Stallone action film began its principal photography in October and is currently filming in Greece.

The first injury occurred when a painter fell from a height during pre-production. Whereas, the second one occurred recently when a stuntman accidentally backed up a vehicle over a camera assistant’s foot.

According to the production company, Millennium Films, both the crew members have now recovered. A representative told Deadline, “The production of Expendables 4 is taking every precaution to ensure the safety of all crew.”

However, this isn’t the first time production on the franchise has been incompetent. In 2011, 26-year-old Kun Liu, a stuntman on the film, died while performing on an inflatable boat while another was injured during filming in Bulgaria.

Stallone himself has talked about how taxing filming on the franchise has been on his body. In 2014, while promoting The Expendables 3, the actor had said,

When I do The Expendables, I break my neck, my spine, and dislocate shoulders. I fell on my back and had to put some metal in there.

Terry Crews had also described a life-threatening experience when he and Jason Statham were filming scenes that involved driving a truck into the Black Sea. Antonio Banderas had suffered from a knee injury on the first day of production as well.

In the light of the tragedy that took place during the production of Rust, scrutiny and concerns surrounding such matters are higher than ever. Producers need to ensure proper safety measures on set are put in place to avoid similar accidents.

Scott Waugh is directing The Expendables 4 with Spenser Cohen, Max Adams, and John Joseph Connolly working on the script.

Alongside Stallone, the film will star Megan Fox, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Andy Garcia, Iko Uwais, 50 Cent, Levy Tran, Tony Jaa, and Randy Couture.

Stallone has already wrapped up filming his scenes for the movie in mid-October, suggesting that maybe his character, Barney Ross, won’t get a lot of screen time in this one.

Various reports suggest that Statham’s character might take over as the leading man, and Uwais was recently confirmed to be the main villain. But other than this, not much is known about the rest of the new characters.

The Expendables 4 doesn’t have a release date yet but is scheduled to release sometime in 2022.
