Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a once-in-a-lifetime anime that brought change to the toxic trends eradicating the fantasy genre and its sub-genre, isekai. Frieren is simple, calming, full of humor, and entertaining while delivering action sequences loved by the masses.
That led Frieren to dethrone Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood from the No.1 position on popular database sites. Frieren has several qualities that most anime don’t have, so it is hard to find something similar.
However, I have curated this list with anime that share certain elements with Frieren. So, without further ado, let’s dive right into the list of the Top 10 anime like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
10 Made in Abyss
The Abyss is an endless pit of the unknown, which remains a mystery to mankind. Inhabited by mysterious creatures and filled with ancient relics, the individuals who dive inside the Abyss for exploration are called Cave Raiders. Among them are White Whistles, individuals who have classified information on Abyss.
One such individual’s daughter is Riko, who is eager to dive into the Abyss but isn’t allowed. But that changes when she comes across a robot with no memories. Not knowing the dangers that await her, she prepares to dive into the Abyss without anyone’s knowledge.
9 Spice and Wolf
Wolf Goddess Holo blessed a village with bountiful harvests for years. But with the advancement of humankind, she is being referred to and treated as a mere folktale.
Holo decides to leave that village and hops onto the cart of a traveling merchant named Kraft Lawrence, who happened to be traveling the village that particular day. Holo makes a deal with Lawrence; if he helps her reach her homeland, she will help him increase the profits. He agrees on a reasonable deal, and both start their journey together.
8 Delicious in Dungeon
After an unexpected encounter during their dungeon raid, Laios’s sister gets eaten by a red dragon. Laios and his team had to retreat to protect themselves, but there was still a chance until the dragon digested its food.
With only two remaining members, Marcille and Chilchuck, Laios decides to raid the dungeon again to save his sister. But without money and food, they wouldn’t survive. Thankfully, a dwarf named Senshi agrees to join their adventure while showing them how to make delicious dishes from the monsters inside the dungeon.
7 Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
When a 34-year-old shut-in tries to protect someone, he gets run over by bus-kun (truck-kun was out of town). Then he gets reincarnated into another world as Rudeus Greyrat.
Retaining his memories from his previous life, Rudeus grows up to discover his strong magical abilities. Soon after facing another adversity in this new life, he goes on an adventure to find those he cherishes the most while overcoming the shortcomings of his previous life.
6 Natsume’s Book of Friends
Natsume has been able to see and interact with spirits for as long as he can remember. That’s also why he’s an outcast. After moving to his grandmother’s hometown following her passing, he mistakenly releases an imprisoned spirit named Madara, who now sticks around with Natsume.
Soon, he finds his grandmother’s ‘Book of Friends’, which contains names of the spirits she had defeated. The book gives the wielder the power to command the spirits named in it. And soon enough, Natsume is chased by all kinds of spirits with their own objectives.
5 Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina
A book inspired Elaina to explore what’s outside the known boundaries she has grown up inside. She’s a genius with an affinity for magic. But before traveling, she has to become a witch, which can only be done under another witch’s guidance.
Unfortunately, every witch declines to do so, and that’s when her parents tell her to find “Stardust Witch.” After becoming her pupil, Elaina faces obstacles, which she successfully overcomes to become a witch and embark on the much-awaited adventure to explore the world.
4 Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World
Kino is a traveler whose goal is to travel to as many places as possible. Along with her talking motorcycle Hermes, she travels to countries with different cultures and traditions to learn about their way of life but stays only for 3 Days and 2 Nights.
She’s afraid that staying in a place more than that might lead her to settle down, which, as a traveler, isn’t ideal. As you might have guessed, Kino’s Journey is episodic and full of adventures.
3 To Your Eternity
A being of an unknown entity casts an orb on Earth, which can replicate anything it comes in contact with. First, it takes the form of a rock, then a wolf that died near it, and then takes the form of the wolf’s owner, Fushi, after his passing.
As Fushi, it embarks on a journey of discovery where it learns human behavior and emotions, all while watching those he befriended wither away because of his immortality. But mysterious beings called Nokkers have their eyes on Fushi, the only one who can fight them.
2 Violet Evergarden
Violet Evergarden has been used as a weapon by the military for her fighting prowess. Major Gilbert Bougainvillea was the only one who treated her as a human, taught her the ways of life, and cared for her. After the war ended, Violet lost both her arms and was sent back.
Later, she joined the CH Postal Service as an Auto Memories Doll, who relays the emotions and thoughts of an individual on paper. In this journey of self-discovery, Violet not only understands and relays others’ feelings on paper but also learns the meaning behind certain words she heard on the battlefield but never understood.
1 Mushishi
Mushi is considered the purest life form that lives off of forest or human beings, a sort of parasite, you might say. But that doesn’t mean they’re harmful; from helpful to malicious ones, every mushi is simply trying to survive.
And, to learn more about them, a Mushishi named Ginko travels from one destination to another. While on the journey, Ginko helps those in need, but at times, he also becomes helpless. Mushishi is undoubtedly Frieren’s sibling, so it’s also a must-watch.
