According to Chapter 257 of Tokyo Revengers, Kaku’s family name really didn’t matter in the first place, but it is more important why he abandoned it.
I can see Wakui drawing scenes like Takemichi visiting Kaku’s grave once this whole incident is over if he really wants to tell us. Kaku might have “abandoned” his family name, but legally speaking, he still retains it.

The raw scans of Chapter 258 “Strange Bedfellows” have just leaked. Mikey can be seen yelling out something, probably giving out orders to his subordinates. He takes notice of the train that was going to kill everyone. Takemichi is in absolute shock and despair after seeing the lifeless body of Kakucho. Sanzu takes advantage of the situation and tries to kill Takemichi with his sword.
However, an unknown figure in Toman uniform enters the battlefield with his bike and hits Sanzu, saving Takemichi. Although his face is not shown, his hairstyle suggests the person is either Taiju or Kazutora. Since Kazutora is supposed to be in prison at this point, it is likelier to be Taiju.
2. Chapter 258 Discussion
In chapter 258 of Tokyo Revengers, Kakucho mentions one thing in particular. He says, “Even he was one of us.” However, it is not clear to whom he refers.
Whether it’s Sanzu or someone else who’s no longer alive or simply Takemichi. Since he’s still alive, it’s unlikely that it’s Sanzu. It’s too little information to form a solid theory.
The latest chapter also saw the death of another key character. Wakui surprised us with another Baji. Judging by the recent chapters, it was probably no more than an accident.
Nonetheless, the revelation regarding other time leapers remains as shocking as ever.

Chapter 257 of Tokyo Revengers opens with Kakucho observing that the train will overturn at the upcoming junction and hit the row of metal storage units, fulfilling Takemichi’s vision of disaster.
Although Takemichi makes repeated attempts to stop the train, he has no luck finding the brakes.
Takemichi realizes that Kakucho’s wound has deepened since the katana wound that Sanzu sustained from him is no longer seen as superficial. It is Takemichi’s turn to get off the train, but the cry-baby hero decides to hang on until he can save the others.
Chifuyu and Mitsuya are among those seen running for their lives when the train approaches, forcing them to take cover. In the meantime, Kakucho realizes that Takemichi is always putting others before himself and throws him off the train in order to protect him.
In the beginning, he appears incapable of navigating the brakes, but Izana soon appears next to him.
As a result of Izana’s appearance, Kakucho reminded himself to try his best. Before the train reaches the junction, Kakucho stops the train with his dying breath.
Takemichi shrieks in joy as the crisis is averted, and Sanzu stares in disbelief at his plans being dismantled. Takemichi discovers Kakucho’s death as he reaches the compartment in elation.

Tokyo Revengers is a manga written and illustrated by Ken Wakui. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine on March 1, 2017, and ended its run in November 2022. It is compiled into 31 tankobon volumes.
