Toei × Saudi Company Produces The Journey, Upcoming Anime Film Adapting Arabian Folklore

Anime is about to enter a whole new world as Toei has announced its collaboration with a Saudi Arabic media company. Their very first anime production will reflect the rich folklore of Arabia.

This all-new anime film, The Journey, might just be the first step to even more Arab-inspired anime. The first visual of the anime has been revealed, and the rich colors and depiction of the story are very pleasing to look at.

The Journey (Journey: A Story of Miracles and Battles on the Ancient Arabian Peninsula) is the new anime film produced by Toei and Manga Productions, the Arabian company.

The movie will premiere on 25th June. A new poster visual has also been revealed.

Abraha, the person standing on the elephant, was an army general and viceroy of southern Arabia. The visual depicts him on an elephant because he had an army of elephants, and he had also died in the year of the War of Elephants.

The film was initially scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2020. However, the physical event was canceled due to the pandemic.

Both Saudi Arabia and Japan will receive premiering of the anime, and Manga Productions is financing the film. The company had commented in 2017 that it will produce a 13 episode anime and a 90-minute film with Toei in the future.

The anime is based on the story of Aus and Abraha. Aus and other Meccans will confront Abraha’s power. The anime would serve as a retelling of how the great general was defeated.

About The Journey

The Journey is an anime film that will debut on 25th June. It is a collaboration project of Toei with Saudi Arabian media production company, Manga Productions.

Manga Productions is financing the whole film. It will premiere in both Japan and Saudi Arabia.

The Journey adapts original Arabian traditional tale into anime form. The film will tell the story of an Arabian viceroy, Abraha, and Aus, the hero who will defeat him.
