From a game to manga to anime to toys, and even watches, Digimon series was a big hit in the late ’90s and is still one of the best anime for kids in 2020. Digimon or Digital Monsters is a type of anime that we all loved watching while being a kid.
Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, the Digimon franchise’s 20th-anniversary film, shows protagonist Taichi Yagami’s life as a college student. The movie will allow fans to witness Tai’s final journey with Agumon.
Toei Animation also released the first trailer in December 2019, which triggered fans’ emotional side towards the series. Now, they released an English-subtitled teaser for the movie on Friday.
The film will be released in Japan on February 21. The movie will also be screened in Japanese with English subtitles in selected theaters in the United States on March 25.
The company also released a six-minute prequel for the film a short while ago called “To Sora” which offers a total of five episodes. Its plot focuses on the side stories of characters, which will not be shown in the upcoming movie.
Fathom Events describes the film’s story as:
“Tai is now a university student, living alone, working hard at school, and working every day, but with his future still undecided. Meanwhile, Matt and others continue to work on Digimon incidents and activities that help people with their partner Digimon. When an unprecedented phenomenon occurs, the DigiDestined discover that when they grow up, their relationship with their partner Digimon will come closer to an end.
As a countdown timer activates on the Digivice, they realize that the more they fight with their partner Digimon, the faster their bond breaks. Will they fight for others and lose their partner? The time to choose and decide is approaching fast. There is a short time before “chosen children” will become adults. This is the last adventure of Tai and Agumon.”
Digimon, short for “Digital Monsters,” is a Japanese media franchise offering toy pets, manga, anime, games, films, and even a trading card game. The franchise was created back in 1997 as a series of virtual pets, influenced by Tamagotchi/nano Giga Pet toys. The franchise gained momentum with its first anime, Digimon Adventure, and an early video game, Digimon World, both of which were released in 1999.
Digimon, the series focuses on monsters like creatures, who inhabit a “Digital World,” a parallel universe that originated from Earth’s various communication networks. Digimon hatch from eggs called Digi-Eggs, and they go through Digivolution, which changes their appearance and increases their powers over time. The effect of Digivolution, however, is not permanent. Digimon who have digivolved will find most of the time revert back to their previous form after a battle or if they are too weak to continue. Most of them can even speak.
