Titans Finale Explained: Do the Titans Defeat Brother Blood?

Over 4 seasons, the Titans have gone through so many ups and downs and have grown together as a family. We’ve seen them face multiple villains, discover new things about themselves and even expand their team while simultaneously losing some of their members.

This week, the time finally came to say goodbye to this group of unconventional superheroes.

SPOILERS AHEAD! This page contains spoilers from titans.

In the season 4 of Titans, the team is up against their most dangerous opponent yet, Brother Blood, who is on a mission to destroy both Earth and Tamaran.

In the series finale of Titans, Kory Anders/ Starfire sacrifices herself by grabbing Brother Blood and flying into the stratosphere to kill him. But just as the team thinks she might be dead too; she comes back alive and well.

At the end of the episode, the Titans celebrate their last victory as a team, after which they split up to start their individual journeys.

1. What happens in the final episode?

The penultimate episode of Titans ends with Sebastian blowing the Horn of Trigon to summon his father. The finale then opens with him taking his full Brother Blood form.

Sebastian knows that his father, Trigon, is lying about letting Sebastian rule the world by his side. So, he takes out his anger by ripping out his father’s heart and drinking his demon blood. The creators weren’t kidding when they said, “it all ends in blood”.

Now that Sebastian has become unstoppable, he sets his eyes on his next target: S.T.A.R. Labs. It turns out that S.T.A.R. Labs has been hiding a secret project called the Icarus Gate that has access to a wormhole.

Since Sebastian is still mad about S.T.A.R. Labs destroying his videogame Abraxus, he believes the only solution is to use the wormhole to destroy both Earth and Tamaran, Kory’s planet.

Sebastian somehow manages to enter S.T.A.R. Labs, in full costume, without being detected by anyone. He then kills all the staff and makes his way to the gate, which is located in the basement.

Meanwhile, the Titans are trying to resurrect Conner/ Superboy after he gets killed by Sebastian in the previous episode. Dick remembers that S.T.A.R. Labs is working on a drug containing Red Kryptonite that can stabilize Superman and so they decide to use it on Conner.

Although the serum takes a while, it does bring Conner back to life later in the episode.

2. How do the Titans defeat Brother Blood?

The Titans arrive at S.T.A.R. Labs to find the dead bodies of the employees. Luckily, Bernard survives Sebastian’s attack, and he reunites with Tim in a cute moment.

The Titans are forced to battle a meta-human task force. At this time, Sebastian possesses Starfire and takes her to the Icarus Gate. Since the gate requires the energy of 10,000 Earth Suns to operate it, Sebastian will need Starfire’s help to get through it.

When Starfire comes out of the trance, she tries to convince Sebastian that this isn’t what he really wants and that he’s only acting on his father’s soul’s desires. However, her efforts are in vain because Sebastian hooks her up to the gate’s mechanism anyway.

The Titans then immediately come to Starfire’s rescue. While they are all trying to fight off Sebastian, Raven tries to jog Starfire’s memories to get her to come to her senses. By this time, Conner has been resurrected.

In an epic final sequence, Conner blasts Sebastian into an electric field after which Dick uses his escrima sticks to disable Sebastian. But since he isn’t dead yet, Starfire, after freeing herself, grabs a hold of Sebastian and flies into the stratosphere.

We don’t actually see what happens to Brother Blood, but we can assume that Starfire blew him up in mid-air and he died for good.

Back on Earth, the rest of the Titans are worried about Starfire. But soon after, she gently floats down from the sky, seemingly unharmed. She and Dick finally kiss, and the team has a group hug to celebrate their triumph over Brother Blood.

What’s important to note in this final scene is that when Starfire returns to Earth, her powers switch from the unusual blue to the classic orange signifying standard Tamaranian abilities.

According to Starfire’s prophecy, that was hinted earlier, her killing Brother Blood would end her. But what it really meant was that she would undergo a metamorphosis and not actually die.

The series also comes a full circle because Starfire finally fulfills what she was initially sent for in season 1: destroying Trigon’s child before they can bring him back to Earth and give him a chance to attack Tamaran.

3. What happens to each of the Titans?

As planned before, the Titans meet up for a family dinner one last time where they discuss their plans for the future.

Gar Logan announces that he’s leaving to be in the Red to train with them. Rachel Roth says she has decided to start college in Blüdhaven because she wants to feel like a normal person.

Tim Drake is going to continue to be Robin, but he will also keep visiting Rachel and will have a life with Bernard in Metropolis.

Conner Kent heads off to be with his genetic father, Clark Kent/ Superman. We even get a cameo (sort of) of Superman where we get to see his iconic red boots.

Finally, Dick Grayson and Kory Anders decide to take a break from the superhero life in order to have a proper relationship together. The two of them see the same little girl from their visions walking by, the one holding a red balloon. This is probably a hint that they will start their own family very soon.

Although it would’ve been nice to see the Titans in action for a few more episodes, it’s a good thing that the show ended on a happy note for all of them.

Maybe if the writers had brought back all the superheroes from the previous seasons for an Avengers-type showdown in the end, the finale might have been slightly elevated.

4. Will we see the Titans again in the future?

Since season 4 was already announced as the last season of Titans, there are no chances of a season 5 happening. However, the Titans could still make cameos in the future now that we know they are part of the Arrowverse and subsequently the DCEU.

The only problem is that James Gunn and Peter Safran have plans to give DC Studios a fresh start. Since they’ve already ruled out big actors like Henry Cavill, Dwayne Johnson and Grant Gustin from making appearances again, any cameos from the Titans look highly unlikely.

Nevertheless, we will always have 4 full seasons to remind us of these Titans forever.
