Thunderbolts* Post Credits Scenes: How Many Are There?

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts delivers not one but two post-credits scenes, each packed with game-changing reveals and Easter eggs for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

As is tradition with Marvel movies, fans are treated to a mid-credits stinger and a full post-credits scene, so it’s worth staying through the entire credits roll.

Thunderbolts* Mid-Credits Scene: Red Guardian’s Wheaties Moment

The first post-credits scene is a lighthearted, comedic moment centered on David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov, aka Red Guardian. In a grocery store cereal aisle, Alexei is thrilled to spot the “New Avengers” (the newly rebranded Thunderbolts) featured on Wheaties, fulfilling his dream of superhero stardom.

He tries to get a shopper to recognize him from the box, but she’s unimpressed and leaves the cereal behind, much to Alexei’s disappointment. This scene is a fun nod to the team’s new status and Alexei’s ongoing quest for recognition.

Thunderbolts* Post-Credits Scene: The New Avengers Assemble

The second, more significant post-credits scene occurs at the newly christened “Watchtower,” formerly Avengers Tower, in New York City. Here, the Thunderbolts-now officially the New Avengers-settle into their new headquarters.

The lineup includes Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, John Walker, Ghost, and Bob (the MCU’s new Sentry), all sporting fresh superhero costumes emblazoned with the New Avengers logo.

There’s immediate tension over the team’s new name: Bucky mentions that Sam Wilson (Captain America) is unhappy about their use of the “Avengers” title and has even threatened legal action.

The scene pokes fun at Marvel’s management while teasing a rivalry between Sam Wilson’s Avengers and the New Avengers, both set to play major roles in upcoming MCU films.

Major Reveal: The Fantastic Four Arrive

The post-credits scene delivers a jaw-dropping moment as the Fantastic Four’s iconic ship appears, signaling their imminent arrival in the MCU.

This is a direct setup for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the next major Marvel release, and confirms that the Fantastic Four will soon interact with the New Avengers and the wider MCU.

What Do These Scenes Mean for the MCU?

New Avengers vs. Sam Wilson’s Avengers

The Thunderbolts* post-credits scenes establish two competing Avengers teams: the New Avengers (the rebranded Thunderbolts) led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Sam Wilson’s original Avengers.

This sets the stage for a major confrontation, likely to be explored in Avengers: Doomsday, the next Avengers film scheduled for 2026.

Sentry and The Void

Bob, aka Sentry, is shown grappling with the risk of unleashing his dark alter-ego, The Void. He refuses to use his powers for fear of losing control, adding a layer of tension and foreshadowing possible future conflicts within the team.

Fantastic Four and the Next MCU Saga

The arrival of the Fantastic Four’s ship is a clear signal that Marvel’s First Family will play a central role in the MCU’s next phase.

Their introduction is expected to tie directly into both The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday, where multiple, including the New Avengers, Sam Wilson’s Avengers, and possibly the Fantastic Four, unite to face Doctor Doom, the confirmed villain for the upcoming saga.

Upcoming MCU Movies to Watch

  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps – Releases July 25, 2025
  • Avengers: Doomsday – Releases May 1, 2026

Both films are set to feature characters and storylines directly spun out of the Thunderbolts* post-credits scenes, making them essential viewing for fans tracking the evolving MCU landscape.

The Thunderbolts* post-credits scenes are more than just fun add-ons- they’re pivotal to the future of the MCU, introducing the New Avengers, teasing a rivalry with Sam Wilson’s Avengers, and heralding the arrival of the Fantastic Four.

With Doctor Doom looming and multiple superhero teams assembling, Marvel fans have plenty to look forward to in the next phase of the MCU.
