Episode 2 of The Unwanted Undead Adventurer is titled “The Rookie and the Veteran.” While gathering spirit energy from the Labyrinth, Rentt encounters a rookie adventurer.

A girl named Rina takes her first adventure in Maalt by visiting the Labyrinth. While Rina fights multiple low-level skeletons, Rentt watches from afar. However, Rentt is forced to interfere and save her life when she is backed into a corner.

To express her gratitude, Rina brings Rentt some robes and a mask to hide his ghoulish face. Together, the two head back to Maalt.

2. Episode 3 Speculation

Now that Rentt has acquired a robe and a mask to cover his ghoulish features, he can blend in with the adventurers. Rentt’s first move was to go to Lorraine since he needed a human cooperator. Lorraine is likely a scholar or scientist and may be able to find a way to cure Rentt.

However, Rentt has seen significant growth after transforming into a monster. Even if there was a way to return to human form, Rentt may not want to. With Existential Evolution, Rentt can quickly progress in strength and ranks and eventually reach his dream. 

Rentt must tell a story to convince the guild about his new look. Once the guild is convinced, Rentt can take on higher-level jobs and grow stronger. Eventually, Rentt may reach mithril rank and a higher evolutionary form.

3. Recap of Episode 2

Rentt wanders around the Labyrinth in ghoul form and kills groups of goblins. The spirit energy and mana strengthen Rentt’s body and sword, making him stronger than he was as a human. The newbie adventurer finally reaches the Labyrinth and kills some skeletons.

Rentt watches the girl from a corner, observing her skills. Rentt recognizes that the girl must be a rookie since she’s never seen her at the guild before. Due to the girl’s lack of muscle, a skeleton manages to overpower her and corners her into a wall.

As the situation grows dire, Rentt runs up and saves the girl. With his struggling ghoul voice, Rentt introduces himself and asks the girl, Rina, to buy him clothes. While Rina returns to the guild, Rentt practices his combat skills and kills bigger monsters.

Rina returns to the Labyrinth with a bag of clothes and the remaining change. Rentt realizes how considerate Rina is after seeing a robe that covers his entire body. Rina also brought a mask and bandages to cover Rentt’s ghoul flesh and face.

Along with Rina, Rentt heads back to Maalt in a carriage. Rentt is worried about showing his ID at the main gate and follows Rina to a different entrance. One of the guards asks to see Rentt’s face, but they make a fake story and convince the security to let them pass.

After entering the town, Rentt runs away from Rina to keep her safe. Rentt then heads to Lorraine’s house and wakes her up. Lorraine assumes that Rentt is just trying out a new mask, but then he shows Lorraine his ghoulish hand. Although shocked, Lorraine waits to hear Rentt’s story.

‘The Unwanted Undead Adventurer’ (Nozomanu Fushi no Bōkensha) is a light novel series written by Yū Okano and illustrated by Jaian. It was launched on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in September 2016. Overlap acquired the novel and is publishing it since October 2017.

Rentt Faina is an adventurer with a decade of experience but is stuck to a lower rank because of a lack of innate talent. One day, while exploring a dungeon, he encounters a dragon who eats him.
