The Patient Episode 9: Release Date, Recap, and Speculation

Alan loses hope after the previous episode’s events, but in episode 8, he feels renewed hope brewing for one reason only – to make amends with his son. But while Ezra and Shoshana are actively looking for him, Sam is on the prowl for his next victim.

Sam ends up killing Kyle and immediately books Mr. Buchella as his therapist. But now Sam is faced with a new dilemma – he has to kill someone he likes, someone who hasn’t wronged him, for the first time. Will Alan be able to survive long enough to be found by some miracle? Or will Sam eventually commit a murder he didn’t want?

1. Episode 9 Synopsis/Speculation

Dr. Strauss leaves nothing unsaid; Sam gives it another shot with Mary; an idea sparks for Sam, and everything seems to click together.

Sam has killed again, Alan’s lost hope is renewed, and only two episodes remain.

Sam has clarified that he’s booked a new therapist and will have to get rid of Alan, but he hesitates. Alan must play his cards right to thwart his death and devise a new escape plan in the next episode.

His life as a prisoner has been projected in his nightmares, and he’s often dreamt he is in a concentration camp in Auschwitz. It’s not just a coincidence that the upcoming episode is titled after said camp, which was eventually liberated.

So how will Alan convince Sam to spare his life and liberate him? Whatever he does, it must work for a while since the official synopsis states Dr. Strauss lays it all bare, and Sam takes several steps toward his healing.

Mary seems to be the key to Sam’s betterment, but it didn’t work out once – who’s to say it will now? And if it does fall apart again, will Sam return to his murderous ways?

All of this is speculation now, of course. But we’ll know more with next week’s episode.
