In the Star Wars vs. Disney battle, The Mandalorian takes the crown of being the most-watched series on the Disney+ platform.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the Nielsen data for Disney’s OTT platform shows the Star Wars show, The Mandalorian, leading the entire roster.

In 2021, the Star Wars series was viewed for 14.52 billion minutes during the eight-week broadcast of the sequel. For individual data, the sequel fared 8.38 billion minutes of viewing time while the first season was viewed for 5.42 billion minutes.

The only show that comes close to both seasons of The Mandalorian, is Marvel’s Thor spin-off, Loki. The series starring Tom Hiddleston came in third with 5.23 billion minutes.

Despite coming second overall, Loki received the highest average viewing time on Disney+, with each episode being viewed for about 872 million minutes.

Marvel’s WandaVision was viewed for 4.8 billion minutes, and another Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett, raked in 4.4 billion minutes of viewing time.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ranked fifth by being viewed for 4.15 billion minutes The last place in the top six was Disney’s Hawkeye, which raked in 3.46 billion minutes.

The data does suggest what Disney+’s target audience prefers. However, it cannot be seen in a vacuum. Multiple factors might have affected the result.

A major factor remains the number of episodes. In total, The Mandalorian has 16 episodes, while others fall into the category of nine, seven, or six episodes.

Moreover, the rise could be because of the absence of new Star Wars content. On the other hand, Marvel kept churning out movies, spinoff animated shows, and TV series, all of which are connected in some way and work together.
