The Last of Us S1 Episode 4: Release Date, Recap, and Speculation

All The Last of Us episodes so far have given us a sneak peak of the past, but episode 3 was mainly set in it, veering from Joel & Ellie’s story to tell us about Bill and Frank. Going off course from the game altogether, episode 3 of The Last of Us made history, with many claiming it to be one of the best TV episodes ever and that it will go down as a classic.

The episode shared the emotional and heartbreaking story of Bill and Frank, and by the end of the episode, Joel managed to keep his cool, but we were drowning in our tears. After this heartrending episode, what will episode 4 bring to the show?

1. Episode 4 Synopsis/Speculation

Joel and Ellie may not have found who they were looking for at the end of episode 3, not alive at least, but they got what they needed to go about the next step in their mission. Joel heads to find Tommy, who used to be a Firefly and could help the duo find them and explain their plans for Ellie.

The upcoming episode’s title and with Joel already slipping into the protective dad stage hints at something terrible coming Ellie’s way. “Please Hold My Hand” could finally touch upon the budding relationship between the two and how they’ll grow closer without Tess.

The upcoming episode will also give us our first look at Tommy since 2003, and we’re hoping some family drama will ensue between the two brothers. Family drama, however, usually means a poker-faced reaction from Joel paired with a frown directed at Ellie.

Ellie got a taste of killing one of the infected, and with her sneaking a gun in this week’s episode, we can presume she’ll break one of Joel’s rules, ending with them in some major shit next week. But when can we expect the next episode to hit our screens?

5. Episode 3 Recap

The Last of Us S1 E4: Release Date, Preview & Theories
Frank and Bill

Episode 3 opens with Joel and Ellie traveling to Bill and Frank’s place after losing Tess. Joel has already slipped into the protective father skit, trying to protect Ellie from the ugly sights. But the curious kid stumbles upon one, and Joel explains how the QZ ended those to whom they couldn’t provide safety.

That comment carries us to the past, where Bill realizes the same horrific truth in 2003 and builds his own safe house filled with resources. He lives alone, barred from the infected and invaders, until four years later, an invader, Frank, makes his way into his home and heart.

The two share years of complacent companionship, even making friends with Joel and Tess along the way. Bill even survives a gunshot, but by 2023, it’s Frank who is lying on his deathbed.

Frank asks Bill for one last good day, and Bill readily gives him just that, but in a twist surprise, Bill takes the same sleeping pills he promised to put in Frank’s last meal.

Sometime after they pass away, Joel and Ellie reach their house and find that Bill left all his supplies to Joel and Tess, which includes a car too. Joel fixes the battery and heads to find Tommy after setting some ground rules for Ellie.
