The Last of Us Part 1 PC Update 1.0.1.7 fixes many issues

The Last of Us Part I came out for PCs last week. As per gamers and testers alike, the game is an uncut diamond with quite some potential. The issues become especially relevant with the RTX 30 series GPUs.
The players have complained of exceptionally long shader times, crashes, jittery cameras, and poor performance amidst many other issues.
Patches and hotfixes are coming in hot, just a week after release, to fix the issues. The first patch targeted several performance and hitch-related issues and added extra crash diagnostic information.
The second one decreased PO cache size, reducing memory requirements and out-of-memory crashes and increased animation streaming memory.
The third patch is reportedly on the way, dropping next Friday and fixing some control issues and crashes. In the changelog, it mentioned a lot of UI/UX changes, unintended character behavior for both playable as well as NPCs, key combinations causing crashes, and memory crashes towards the end of the game.

The changelog immediately alerted users running Nvidia 30-series GPUs to update to the GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 531.58. This is targeted towards Last of Us Part 1, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and Resident Evil 4 remake.

Going into the details, as per the changelog to the update 1.0.1.7:

  • Fixed an issue that could cause the Xbox controller stick inputs to read as zeros for brief periods erroneously.
  • Fixed an issue where the ‘Reset to Default’ function in the Graphics menu under Settings could make improper selections.
  • Fixed an issue where the HUD performance monitors could impact performance when enabled.
  • Fixed an issue where a crash could occur when using [ALT+ENTER] to toggle between Fullscreen and Windowed modes.
  • Fixed an issue where a memory crash could occur during the transition from the end of the game into the credits sequence.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause a crash while the game launched.
  • Added additional crash report logs to provide further insight for developers.

One thing to be added here is the fix to the camera jitter. As per a developer tweet, an attempt to fix the issue worsened things. This is why the fix has been pushed to a future patch.
The number of changes coming with this update shows that the developers Naughty Dog and their partners at Iron Galaxy care deeply about the game and community needs.

As promised, towards the end of the changelog, the developers are actively working on optimizing, improving game stability, and implementing additional fixes to be featured in future updates.
