The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 5: Release Date, Recap, and Speculation

Although June is trying her best to heal from her past, the life she left behind has not yet eased its grip on her. With Serena’s position as Gilead’s ambassador in Canada and her work to spread the city’s principles and learnings, June and Luke’s livid rage poses a severe threat to her.

And though they succeeded in thwarting her plan, we can easily assume Serena has not had her last word for now.

1. Episode 5 Synopsis/Speculation

In this week’s episode, we see June and Luke joining therapy. Still, if the current episode indicates anything, the next episode will assure viewers that things will get nastier going ahead.

In the next episode, we will see how Lawrence plans to keep Serena out of Gilead and what he intends to do about keeping Gilead’s “charm.”

Lydia’s change in heart is a huge turn, and in the next episode, we may see her take the handmaids’ side, not the commanders’. Janine’s change in nature is also just a show of the oncoming revolt of the handmaids against Gilead.

Serena is most definitely not done with June, and since this week’s episode was June’s win, Serena will surely make a winning move in next week’s episode.

Will June and Luke find a way to get Hannah back without involving Serena? Will Lydia and Janine turn the tide for the handmaids?

The Handmaid’s Tale

Serena’s followers in Canada have not let Offred forget her past, but the brave ex-handmaid has her claws bared for anyone that dares cross her—even Serena.

Serena opens an Information Center in Canada to spread Gilead’s gospel, and though terrified of June, doesn’t fail to instigate her. Enraged, June and Luke decide to take action, but Luke finds a way to deal with her without violence.

Commander Lawrence pulls strings behind the scenes to stop Serena from making big waves in Gilead and how things run there.

Aunt Lydia learns a lesson after Janine gives her a piece of her mind and tries to speak to Commander Lawrence about making a change, but Lawrence shoots her idea down.

Though Serena angers Luke by baiting Hannah in front of him, Luke manages to get the Information Center shut down thanks to building code violations.
