June managed to escape Gilead, but Offred is still not free of the traumatizing memories of her life there. She debates whether facing her evil and manipulative mistress again is worth finishing her off.
But Serena is devising her own masterful plan to regain Gilead’s power in her late husband’s stead and goad June into returning to Gilead, away from the safety net she found in Canada.
1. Episode 3 Synopsis/Speculation
Episode 3 will most likely see June’s reply to Serena’s smug look, clearly meant for Offred, raising tensions high and expectations higher for upcoming episodes.
This episode did not feature Hannah, so we can expect to see more of her in Episode 3, yet another reason why Gilead will see the return of June Osbourne.
As shown in the first two episodes, the other handmaids of Gilead are still suffering the child-bearing slavery of the ages. Episode 3 will probably focus on Esther’s role as a handmaid to highlight the oppression of the enslaved.
On the bright side, or bright as it gets with this show, more of Luke and June’s relationship will be explored. June may have to face her fears once again to save her daughter from Gilead’s slavery.

4. Episode 1 Recap
June’s murder colleagues are anxious to finish off Serena Waterford after her husband’s killing in the Season 4 finale, but June is still recovering from years of trauma and is hesitant to return to Gilead after her narrow escape.
Serena, still grieving her husband and pregnant with her miraculous child, knows that June will target her next. She is determined to protect herself and her unborn child from Offred, ready to go to any extent in her revenge.
Tuello informs June about Serena’s reaction and thanks her, while June must come to terms with living with the PTSD of her life in Gilead.
5. Episode 2 Recap
Serena demands a grander affair for her late husband’s funeral with an ulterior motive in mind. She threatens the other commanders she knew theirs and June’s secret in her husband’s murder and is not afraid to disclose it to all of Gilead.
Aunt Lydia readies Esther to be the next handmaid for the wealthy Putnam family and decides to show her off at the funeral gathering at their house. Serena uses her manipulative ways to an agreement for Waterford’s funeral to be broadcasted on TV.
June is still struggling to heal from her traumatic life in Gilead, and when she sees a smug Serena on TV while Gilead honors her dead husband at a grand funeral, something in June cracks, rendering Serena’s bait taken.
6. About The Handmaid’s Tale
The Handmaid’s Tale is an American dystopian television series created by Bruce Miller for Hulu. It is based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name.
Set in the fictional dystopian state of Gilead, where fertile women are kept as “handmaids” and are subjected to child-bearing slavery, the series Offred (June Osbourne) and her fight for her freedom from Gilead, along with all the oppressed.
The series has covered four seasons worth of runtime, and the fifth season will premiere on Hulu on 14 September 2022.
