3. Recap of Episode 5

A man visits Hikaru to scan his neural net since he has had insomnia for a while now, and his wife talks to the doctor while they wait. Sudo discovers that his memories were illegally altered six years ago and suspects he’s being manipulated.

He visits an old colleague who’s also a doctor and sits down with him for tea. He immediately accuses him of altering the memory of his patient, Matsumura. He confesses that Matsumura had come to him years ago after struggling with addiction his whole life.

He uses modern technology to simulate improving memories and an imaginary old friend who helped him get over everything. Before Sudo can leave, he gives him a cactus as a gift to take home. Although the way Matsumara was treated was unethical, it was the easiest way to fix his issues.

Matsumura visits Sudo’s residence after he is cured of insomnia and notices the cactus since he also has the same kind. The following day, Yuta comes in for a check-up with Sudo for a personality treatment. Due to extreme anger issues, he has been constantly getting in trouble at home and school.

Sudo consults the medical AI in his clinic, and it recommends some emotional tuning that would change his personality. The piano is the only thing consistent in Yuta’s life since it would never act unexpectedly. At school, he got into fights and acted rudely toward everyone, so he never made friends.

With the help of the AI, they complete the procedure to tune his emotions, and it goes perfectly. He apologizes to everyone in school and manages to stay calm and collected. Yuta notices that not only has his composure changed, his way of playing the piano did too.
