It seems like The Flash spin-off featuring Michael Keaton’s Batman has been canceled after the shake-ups at Discovery, Warner bros, and DC Studios.
Keaton is set to make a grand comeback into the franchise as the DC icon in the upcoming The Flash movie, along with Ezra Miller. Ben Affleck’s version of Batman will also feature in the film, and the juxtaposition of the two iterations of Batman will have a crucial role to play in the story.
The Barry Allen-centric film will be the perfect platform for Keaton to reprise his version of Batman in the franchise.
It seems like Keaton could’ve received his own Batman movie after The Flash. It would’ve completed his comeback into the DCU after the long hiatus following Batman Returns.
The Hot Mic Podcast’s Jeff Sneider reported that Cristina Hodson had even started working on the new Batman film featuring Keaton’s clash with the Dark Knight. The Flash spin-off could’ve been the perfect platform for further exploring the Caped Crusader.
It is unclear how far they got into the filming process, but recent reports confirm that the film has now been scrapped.
The Warp’s Umberto Gonzalez has also confirmed that the movie was supposed to be named Batman Beyond, with Keaton leading the cast.
Although, it is almost confirmed that the movie stands canceled, we have yet to hear from DC Studios or Warner Bros. about this.
Michael Keaton’s future in the DCU seems to have hit an unexpected bump. The creators wanted Keaton’s iteration of Batman to be a recurring presence in the movies, much like MCU’s Nick Fury. However, the events of the past two years have raised serious questions about Keaton’s future in this franchise.
The Batman Beyond movie is the second big project starring Michael Keaton that has been scrapped since he entered the DCU. The creators wanted Keaton as the new Dark Knight after the events of The Flash, which would’ve led straight to the events of The Batgirl, starring Leslie Grace.
He also featured in the Batgirl movie and was seen in his Batman attire many times on sets. However, after the recent Warner Bros. Discovery merger, it was decided that the Batgirl project would be canceled.
With two big projects lost, it will take a lot of work to carve out a way for him to feature in future DCU movies. A comeback in any Batman or Batgirl movie seems hard to fathom.
The DCU is going through a topsy-turvy phase following recent reports of a complete overhaul by DC Studios. So, it is tough to predict Keaton’s future in the franchise as of now.
Even though DC Studios’ co-CEO responded to these claims, it still remains to be seen whether Keaton will appear as Batman again after The Flash.
