Episode 2 Recap
In an alternate world, Minoru Kagenou is reborn as Cid Kagenou after dying in a road accident. He has a very different life now that he is a member of an aristocratic family.
While maintaining his vigilante life in secret, Cid pretends to be ordinary in public so that he can continue to live a life of vigilantism. His older sister Claire became the true heir when he grew up, so people eventually saw him as the true heir.
Cid finds a blob of living rotting flesh while battling bandits at night. He tries to cure the cursed person for a few days by experimenting on him. His healing finally transforms the rotting meat into a beautiful elven girl.
To manipulate her, Cid takes advantage of this opportunity. Introducing her as Alpha, he tells her that she is the descendant of ancient heroes who fought Diabolos valiantly once upon a time.
In her rant, Cid claims that Diabolos’ cult is now planning to resurrect him and that she must take action to prevent this. After believing Alpha’s words, Shadow Garden forms a group against the cult.
The Shadow Seven was formed three years after she managed to recruit a few members. Despite his efforts, Cid has never defeated his sister Claire despite training with her.
A noble’s 15th birthday is the day when they join the Midgar Academy of Dark Knights in the royal capital. In addition to enlisting, Claire has now moved out of the house for her formal education. Claire goes missing without a trace from her room the day she should leave for the royal capital.
In no time, it becomes apparent that she has been kidnapped. He is shocked to discover that someone survived against his mother, and his mother is furious with his father over the lax safety. However, Cid himself is unconcerned and decides to meet Beta to find out how the Shadow Seven will locate her.
As soon as Beta has taken note of the situation, she meets with Cid to discuss the next steps. According to Beta, the Cult of Diabolos has a high-ranking official involved in the kidnapping. Cid believes the bandits did the kidnapping.
They took Claire, she says, because they thought she was descended from one of the heroes. Beta then shows Cid a map of possible hiding places where his sister might be.
To give the group a clue about where to look, Cid throws a knife on the map but accidentally misses his intended point. Cid surprised Beta by pointing in the direction they weren’t even looking. Beta was ecstatic and thought Cid had hit the nail on the head. The Seven Shadows launched an attack on the hideout soon after this meeting.
In the meantime, Viscount Grease questions Claire about the Cult of Diabolos. Moments later, Claire breaks her chains and lunges toward him just as he begins to speak about her brother.
The Seven Shadows suddenly attack the hideout, and one of his men comes with the news. His men are falling like flies in front of the enemies, despite the Viscount’s belief that they are powerful enough to be in the Royal Guard.
In the face of Alpha and her underlings, Viscount fought for a while before fleeing. His fighting abilities are mocked by Cid, who kills him without remorse. Following the breakup, Claire returns home. She recovers quickly enough to travel to the royal capital after sustaining minor injuries.

The Eminence in Shadow, a manga by Daisuke Aizawa, started serialization in 2018. It is scheduled to receive an anime in October 2022. An anime film, titled ‘The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes,’ was announced in December 2023.
Cid, the protagonist, is obsessed with becoming a hidden mastermind. Being reincarnated in an isekai world gives him the chance to act on his wishes and build up his power beyond the notice of people.
After rescuing an elf, he forms a squad who are supposed to fight the Diabolos cult which is just a figment of his imagination. However, the cult turns out to be true and now he actually has an enemy to face.
