Shadow brings the kingdom of Midgar to its knees in a spectacular display of power in the finale episode 20 of The Eminence in Shadow, titled “Advent Of The Demon.”
The title gives this episode justice as Shadow truly proves his fearsome power over the strongest warriors in the kingdom, teasing and showing them how easily an entire city could be flattened if he willed it.
Supreme ruler of this realm, Shadow’s power knows no bounds now as the Shadow Garden move in the shadows and puts their plans into action; now, with Rose as a recruit, the course of the plot takes a turn for the dramatic.

Several Twitter leaks, however, have reported that a second season of The Eminence in Shadow is already in production and will reportedly have 12 episodes. From his perspective, we see the moments between Shadow’s entrance, as he leaves the battle with Iris and blasts through the window to save Rose. All the dots begin connecting as Iris watches from the battlefield.
Shadow and Beatrix clash blades in a massive blast as she watches helplessly from down below. The kingdom flows into panic as all the honorary guests are evacuated quickly, as well as the royals.
Beatrix fights fiercely as she matches blades with Shadow, but in a moment of calmness, Shadow appears behind her instantly and launches a surprise attack. She defends at the last moment, but he teases her some more with his speed.
Iris enters the duel and brings out a Mythril blade filled with ancient runes, and Shadow scoffs at her for relying on such an artifact. As she swings it, the edge shines in huge flames, but Shadow is much too fast for any attack she could throw.
Rose considers her next decision as she makes a quiet escape from the coliseum, and Shadow’s battle eventually reaches the middle of the city, where both Beatrix and Iris team up on him, but he still does not break a sweat.
Rose receives an invitation to join the Shadow Garden, and after giving it, some thought, eventually gives in and pledges to fight alongside them. Iris’s rage only grows further as they clash blades.
He senses some potential in Beatrix as he praises her swordsmanship. They try and synchronize their attacks as Iris tries to get him to hold still while Beatrix goes to finish him off, but it is not even close.
Shadow takes them both out in one fell swoop, but Iris still throws threats behind his back as he scoffs even more, devolving into maniacal laughter as he lets out a humongous force field covering the entirety of the kingdom in purple.
He channels an attack beyond their imagination but fakes them out and leaves them in light, and Iris is on her knees in despair. Perv Asshat begins realizing the consequences of his actions and is punished.
Beatrix and Iris say their farewells as everything calms down in the kingdom. We see all the characters returning to their homes and things finally coming down to a peace that hides chaos behind it for those who know.
Rose is taken to Alexandria, the Shadow Garden’s base of operations, and is immediately recruited into a training scheme and assigned a number for a name, and removed from any of her past connections.

The Eminence in Shadow, a manga by Daisuke Aizawa, started serialization in 2018. It is scheduled to receive an anime in October 2022. An anime film, titled ‘The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes,’ was announced in December 2023.
