Robert Pattinson Says The Batman Will Shock People & Set Up a Sequel

Come hell or high water, Vengeance is coming to terrify the criminals of Gotham City this March.

As DC fans (and a fair amount of Twilight stans) await Robert Pattinson’s take on The Batman, the actor has some ideas about the film’s sequel.

Director Matt Reeves has previously mentioned his long-term plan for a trilogy. With two spin-off series about Gotham PD and Colin Farrell’s Penguin in the works at HBO Max, Pattinson hinted at how The Batman’s ending could lead into future installments.

While talking to Total Film, Pattinson spoke on how this version of Batman is unlike anything we’ve experienced before and feels like a complete story even if it teases a follow-up at the end,

When I saw it the first time, even from the first shot, it does feel incredibly different, tonally, to the other movies. And it’s so strange, and kind of… It’s sad, and quite touching. It’s a really, really unusual Batman story, and it almost seems harder for me to imagine it being a series afterwards. I mean, they always have that little bit at the end, that’s like: ‘…and coming up!’ But other than that, it feels strangely personal. I think people will be quite shocked at how different it is.

Pattinson had never auditioned for a superhero/comic book character before Batman. The actor has a bias and soft spot for the character, making a compelling case by calling him a total ‘freak’ when asked what drew him to it.

I just kept obsessively checking up on it for the next year or so. Even my agents were like, ‘Oh, interesting. I thought you only wanted to play total freaks?’ And I was like, ‘He is a freak!’

Out of all the comic-book characters and that kind of movie, I’ve seen every single one of the [Batman] movies in the cinema, which I can’t really say I’ve done for any other series… I just had a weird instinct about it. But I’ve always loved the character.

Reeves has praised Pattinson’s version of Batman time and time again. After a 3-minute-long clip from the film made rounds on the internet, the general masses were convinced Pattinson was definitely the perfect choice for the new Caped Crusader.

The director also uploaded the scene in 4K on his Vimeo account to give fans a better quality at the sneak peek as the original video was a screen-recording of a YouTube advertisement for the film.

The Batman is currently set for a theatrical release on March 4, 2022.
