The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s Danny Ramirez, who plays Joaquín Torres, has teased his character’s transformation into the new Falcon in a Screen Rant exclusive interview.
Joaquín Torres is a supporting character in the series led by Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes. The recent Episode 5 saw Sam hand over his broken wings to Torres. As the show moves towards its final episode, some big MCU power shifts could be on the way.
In the comics, Joaquín Torres becomes the new Falcon after Sam puts on the mantle of Captain America. His rendition of the winged icon has been a member of the Champions, a heroic partner to Captain America, and an accomplished hero in his own right.
In the comics, Torres is an actual human/bird hybrid — part of Sam’s own actual story that was altered in bringing him to the MCU. Since Phase 4 has been setting up new heroes for the future of the franchise, Torres’ addition has been of special interest to fans.
However, Torres’ Falcon isn’t the only young superhero The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has teased. The introduction of Isaiah Bradley to the MCU also roped in his grandson, Elijah, who in the comics comes to be the superpowered hero Patriot. Phase 4 is establishing a number of other young heroes as well, like Speed and Wiccan in WandaVision and Kate Bishop in the forthcoming Hawkeye series.
In the interview with Screen Rant, Danny Ramirez talked about his potential future in the MCU. When asked about Torres’ repairs of Sam’s mechanical wings, the actor said,
“Yeah, the repair—for whoever it may be. I think he is pretty good at repairing things, for sure. He knows his way around the tech, so I think he won’t have too much trouble repairing whatever he has to repair in whatever condition they’re in. I think he’ll have a good time with it. He’ll have a good time with it.”Danny Ramirez
It would be exciting to see Torres fly in for a little air support when Sam sets to go into battle with Captain America’s shield in Episode 6. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has largely been a story about passing the torch.
Showing Torres’ conversion into a superhero alongside Sam’s Captain America debut would be a huge moment. Though Ramirez hasn’t confirmed anything explicitly, it’s possible the new Falcon could be held for a future MCU project.
