Nick Mohammad’s Acting Was Fabulous… But F*ck You Nate Shelly!

Hello, Ted Lasso writers. We’d like the emotions and tears we shed for season 1 Nate Shelley back, please.

As the Emmy-award-winning show closed its doors for season 2, fans saw Nick Mohammad’s Nate Shelly cross the sacred AFC Richmond border to West Ham. In the biggest of ways, this was a ‘f*ck you’ to the team that made him feel loved and significant.

Nick made us love and emphasize with the kit man Nathan Shelly in season 1. And his incredibly excellent acting skills now make us despise him. It’s challenging to make a complete 180 contrast of your feelings, but actors like Mohammad, make it easy for us to do so.

Season 2’s Nate Shelly really just spiraled into darkness (or pettiness). Maybe all the antagonists got a redemption arc, so the writers thought, ‘Well, here’s someone who has always had trouble. Let’s throw him under the bus.’

Nate’s serious daddy issues were always right in front of the fans’ faces. They upgraded the relationship to a level we know there’s no going back. Which father doesn’t praise his child for featuring in a newspaper for a good deed? Nate Shelly’s.

The worsening of his daddy issues is just the tip of the iceberg, though. Him downright bullying the new kit man, Will, came as a shocking bolt out of the blue. Especially knowing first-hand how kit men were treated.

If you ever do anything to humiliate me again, I’ll make your life a f*king misery.

Really, Nate?

Not to forget him insulting Colin and his work. Basically telling him that he’s irrelevant, especially besides Jamie and Dani. This was the first instance fans saw of Nate spiraling into his descent.

His sexual advances towards Keeley, Roy’s girlfriend, also set him up for disaster. While he did realize his wrong a moment after the deed was done and spit on his reflection in the mirror, being disgusted by himself, it displayed how the cheeky, humble Nate has now completely changed.

Something fans would’ve never imagined was Nate tipping off the media about Ted’s panic attack. The one who made him confident, feel loved, wanted, and, more importantly, realized his potential, was the one Nate betrayed.

The finale also shows him as the new West Ham coach, AFC Richmond’s competitor, and Rebecca’s ex-husband Rupert’s team. Nate knows the Richmond team inside-out. There’s no way we’ll see things getting better in Ted Lasso’s third season.

The underdog kit man who became a great coach to a menacing bully, it’s surreal how Nick Mohammad stayed sane throughout Ted Lasso’s season 2, giving us an unforgettable and much-hated character.

If Nate decides to come home to AFC Richmond after sorting unsortable things out, we want Ted and the team to put up the ‘Welcome home, Cheater’ banner.
