Kara Killmer Explains Sylvie Brett’s Exit in Chicago Fire Season 12

Kara Killmer discusses Sylvie Brett’s exit in Chicago Fire season 12 and why it fits.

Brett’s character was introduced much later in the show, but she became one of the most important characters in the last decade. Her storyline concluded in One Chicago as she left Chief Boden’s house with a good reputation as a paramedic. She also got her happy ending with Matt Casey.

In Chicago Fire season 12, episode 6, Casey and Brett are about to get married. However, the moment is bittersweet as it’s Killmer’s final appearance. In an interview with Deadline ahead of the episode’s broadcast, Killmer explained why it Is the right time for Sylvie Brett’s exit from the show.

Here’s what she said:

“This is the natural end for her character; it’s kind of a perfect bookend, really. I’m selfishly delighted over the fact that Sylvie shows up in Chicago a jilted bride who was dumped at the altar by her high school sweetheart and then ends up across the aisle in her last episode from Matt Casey, the love of her life. I just love that her character has been able to come full circle and it’s it’s such a great way to exit her journey. It’s sort of perfect timing.”

Brett and Casey have not been dating for too long, though Chicago Fire had always intended for them to be together. They began by being friends and slowly developed mutual attraction.

They also had to remain away from each other for a while but eventually got together in the season 11 finale. After their reunion, the news of Killmer exiting One Chicago also came in, making it easier for the makers to wrap up their arc.

Brett will spend her last few episodes balancing her role as a paramedic and planning her upcoming wedding. Casey and Brett will not be married in an ideal scenario, given that they have to do it in a fish shop. However, Chief Boden and his team will be there to make sure their memories are special.

Firehouse 51 will also be present at Molly’s house for the afterparty, ensuring that Kelly Severide is back on time to join them. NBC and Wolf Entertainment should do their best to make the most out of Brett and Casey’s last days with Firehouse 51.

The Chicago Fire season 12 episode will focus on their wedding, but the show will also do a lot to honor the friendships developed during the series.
