Anime spinoffs generally tend to expand upon the backstory of a character who wasn’t fully fleshed out in the main story. While that is well and good, it is appealing only if you liked the character in the first place.

Sometimes, spinoffs that expand upon the main story or discover it through an alternative perspective are also appreciated.

The official website for Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of Starless Night has released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming movie. The movie is set to be released on 30th October 2021.

The 30-second trailer shows Asuna’s first experience with the game and her realization of how she can only leave upon completing the game.

The character visuals for the three main characters of the movie were also revealed.

Kirito is in his usual long black coat with a blue t-shirt with a chest plate. Unlike Kirito, Asuna is in a different outfit, a full sleeves white shirt with a red skirt.

The new character, Mito, is in a purple dress with chest armor and a white cape. She is holding a scythe, which is her primary weapon.

Although we get to see a lot of Asuna in the main story, it will be interesting to see how it all began from her perspective.

From the looks of it, Mito seems very important to Asuna, but it is a mystery why she was never mentioned in the original anime.

We shall have our answers soon enough once the movie comes out!

About Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec.

The series occurs in the near future and focuses on the protagonist “Kirito” Kirigaya Kazuto and Asuna Yuuki as they play through various virtual reality MMORPG worlds.

At the launch of the game, 10,000 people had connected themselves to the virtual reality of Sword Art Online. The plot takes a twist when people realize that they can’t quit the game.

Protagonist Kirito, a pro gamer and was present for the beta launch of SAO, starts planning to clear levels as soon as possible. Throughout his quest to finish the game, he meets many friends and also a love interest, Asuna.

The plot and the whole premise of the show are remarkably unique and quite believable in some futuristic sense.
