The film has lately risen even higher on the list of all-time highest-earning anime films in Japan. The First Slam Dunk is now trailing behind Makoto Shinkai’s latest picture, after passing the director’s previous feature, Weathering With You.

The movie has overtaken Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You in terms of lifetime domestic revenues. This makes it the 15th highest-earning film in Japan’s history and the ninth highest-earning anime film.

Despite their tremendous success, these films have yet to surpass the lifetime collection of Shinkai’s previous film, Your Name, which stands at a staggering $382 million and is the third highest-grossing Japanese film of all time. Nevertheless, both films can take pride in their achievement of surpassing the notable titles.

About Suzume no Tojimari

Suzume no Tojimari is an anime film by Makoto Shinkai. It premiered on November 11, 2022. A novel adaptation was released in August 2022, also written by Shinkai.

The film focuses on Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who meets a young man looking for a door. Suzume finds a strange door among the ruins and opens it, but due to it many doors start opening around Japan, causing disasters. Now, Suzume has to close all of them to save Japan.
