A new trailer for the second half of Superman & Lois Season 1 has teased more cinematic action and some dark family drama that’s yet to come. The show will return to air the remaining episodes on May 18.
With Tyler Hoechlin’s debut as Clark Kent/ Superman in 2016, he became a staple in the Arrowverse. But it wasn’t until earlier this year that the character finally secured his standalone show.
Superman & Lois Season 1 ran for the first five episodes before going on a temporary hiatus due to a crew member having contracted COVID. However, with the show set to return next week, The CW has geared up for its promotions, the first of which included the release of a brand-new trailer.
Titled “Broken Trust,” the new footage offers several looks into the upcoming episodes, especially the Kent family’s complex drama. In the first few moments, it appeared as though the show sets up Superman’s death as Lois is seen lamenting how close Clark came to meeting his end. The latter only states that he “got lucky.”
Furthermore, Jordan continues to struggle with both his newly discovered powers and his emotions. Becoming inclined to use them when angered and to take revenge upon his former bullies, they seem to have brought the relationship between father and son to a boiling point.
The trailer also retains the cinematic aspects that Superman & Lois has come to be associated with, unlike other Arrowverse shows. In fact, it looks to be saving the best for the last in terms of spectacle.
One particular moment teases the return of evil Superman as he unleashes destruction upon Metropolis, the likes of which have only been seen in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. However, it wasn’t made clear whether this was a part of a flashback, or how Luthor foresees the future, or something else altogether.
Other details left missing from the footage were Jordan’s escape from Tag and Morgan Edge’s intentions for the X-Kryptonite. Either way, it sets up for some major reveals to come in the second half of the show, which will undoubtedly help shed light on previously unanswered questions.
