Succession Season 4 Episode 5: The Funniest and Most Sinister Hour Yet

The fifth episode of Succession season 4 is out now, and it has a thrilling ending that will change the course of the HBO show. Succession has been a roller coaster ride in its final season, with the shocking twist that Logan Roy is dead, but episode 5 shows that there is still more to come.

The show has many loose ends to tie up even now and episode 5 takes us closer to the resolution. In this article, I have broken down everything that happens in Succession season 4, episode 5, including all the major surprises, resolutions, and new developments.

Succession season 4 is the last season of HBO’s popular comedy-drama. The season follows the Roy family and the other employees of Waystar Royco as they get ready for the inevitable GoJo deal.

The GoJo deal has been the main focus of Succession seasons 3 and 4, but Succession season 4, episode 3 changed everything when it revealed that Logan Roy had passed away. While the Roy family is still dealing with the consequences of Logan Roy’s death, season 4, episode 5 moves things forward, following co-CEOs Kendall and Roman as they talk to Lukas Matsson about the GoJo deal again.

1. What is Happening With the Gojo Deal?

The GoJo deal was put on hold in episodes 3 and 4, but Succession season 4, episode 5 brings it back to the center stage. The episode follows the leaders of Waystar Royco’s different departments as they go to Sweden to work on the deal after Logan’s passing, with Kendall and Roman making big changes at the last minute.

Lukas Matsson offers Waystar Royco a low price at first, but he also makes an intriguing suggestion. Matsson wants to buy Waystar Royco and ATN, the news network that was excluded from the deal in Logan’s first negotiations with GoJo.

Kendall and Roman disagree on this deal, with Kendall wanting to keep ATN. However, after talking with the board, Waystar Royco agrees to go ahead with the deal. However, both Roy brothers change their minds throughout the episode, with them both trying to get Matsson to cancel the deal.

Despite this, the deal is finalized at the end of the episode, with it likely going through in a later episode in Succession season 4. It looks like this GoJo offer is the last one, ending the main story of Succession seasons 3 and 4.

2. Kendall & Roman’s Stance in the Gojo Deal Explained

Kendall and Roman Roy tried to ruin the GoJo/Waystar deal in Succession season 4, episode 5, but it didn’t work. This is because, even though they were co-CEOs, they still didn’t have the authority to undo Logan’s long-term work.

Roman feared that the FCC would punish Waystar Royco if they decided to back out of the deal at the last minute, making the two realize it was a bad idea. On top of that, Gerri, Karl, Frank, and the others thought the deal was good, pushing the brothers to agree to it.

Even though Kendall and Roman couldn’t openly ruin the deal, they still try. Roman raves at Matsson about how Waystar will stall the deal as long as possible, ignoring e-mails and just generally being uncooperative. Roman’s motive is to irritate Matsson so much that he cancels the deal – but that will probably never happen.

3. Is Shiv & Lukas Matsson Romantically Involved?

Even though Shiv Roy isn’t a Waystar Royco CEO, she has several scenes with GoJo CEO Lukas Matsson. The two talk privately, with their conversations having a clear romantic tone

Matsson asks Shiv for help on personal issues. Even though Shiv probably doesn’t like Matsson, she seems to be using him to hurt Tom to make him envious.

4. Logan Roy is Still an Integral Part of Succession

Even though Logan Roy died two episodes ago, he still manages to divide the Roy siblings and remains an integral part of the show without being physically present.

Kendall’s plan at the end of episode 4 shows that his vendetta against Logan is only growing. In contrast, Roman’s defense of his dad’s character shows that he is actually starting to respect Logan now that he’s gone. While the two don’t directly discuss their thoughts on Logan, their divided beliefs will probably cause them to come to blows later in Succession season 4.

5. What to Expect Next in Succession?

The GoJo deal has been the main story of Succession seasons 3 and 4 so far, and now that the deal has apparently ended, there are a lot of questions about what will happen next.

The upcoming Logan Roy funeral storyline will surely have a big effect on the show, possibly causing more drama within the family. The rest of season 4 could also follow Kendall and Roman’s efforts to ruin the deal, getting the company into even more trouble. It isn’t clear what will happen in Succession season 4’s last five episodes, but it will surely be thrilling.
