Kendall’s Bold Move: Succession Season 4 Episode 7 Ending Explained

Succession season 4 episode 7, titled Tailgate Party, is a pivotal episode in the series.

The episode sees the Roy siblings continue to navigate the aftermath of their father’s death and the power struggle to control WaystarRoyCo. At the end of the episode, Kendall comes up with a new idea – to “reverse Viking” Matsson by having Waystar acquire GoJo instead of the opposite, without telling either of his siblings.

This significant turn of events could have major implications for the future of the company and its relationship with Matsson. In this article, we will explore the ending of Succession season 4 episode 7 in detail and explain its significance.

1. What happens between Tom and Shiv?

At the end of Succession season 4 episode 6, Shiv and Tom’s relationship seemed to be on the mend as they slept together for the first time in a while.

However, in episode 7, their relationship takes a turn for the worse when they have a heated argument on the balcony during their party. The argument not only ends the party early but also drives a wedge between the couple, making their relationship even more strained than it was after Shiv’s betrayal in season 3.

During the argument, Tom brings up the fact that Shiv won’t have his baby. This could be a reference to a storyline that fans have been speculating about since the beginning of season 4.

There were hints earlier in the season that Shiv might be pregnant, but this storyline hasn’t been mentioned in several episodes. Tom’s comment could confirm that Shiv is (or was) pregnant, although it’s possible that something has changed since her phone call with the doctor.

2. Kendall’s Plan to Make WaystarAcquire GoJo

The most significant part of Succession season 4 episode 7 features Kendall and Frank having conversation in which they discuss their next move. While Kendall’s initial goal was to prevent GoJo from acquiring Waystar Royco, he now has bigger plans for Waystar Royco to acquire GoJo

Kendall

It’s unclear how realistic this plan is but given Kendall’s business acumen and the controversies surrounding Lukas Matsson, it’s possible that season 4 of Succession could end with Waystar Royco emerging stronger than ever.

Another reason why Kendall’s plan could work is because GoJo’s growth rate of new subscribers has been greatly exaggerated, as revealed in the latest episode.

GoJo’s status as a rising star in the industry has allowed it to progress in its acquisition of Waystar Royco, but now that the truth about its inflated numbers is coming to light, everything could change.

This revelation could be a major boost for Kendall Roy’s new plan to flip the deal and have Waystar Royco acquire GoJo instead. There are still many unanswered questions about the GoJo deal, but this revelation could have a significant impact on future developments.

Moreover, if we know anything about Kendall, we know that he has the ability to get something done. In an ironic way, he is quite like his father, though I am not disregarding the trauma he had to go through because of Logan.

On paper, Kendall’s idea looks too huge and unrealistic to implement immediately but it’s Ken Roy we’re talking about. I would say anything is possible.

3. Kendall’s Daughter Harassed by ATN Guys

In Succession season 4, the fictional news network ATN plays an even larger role in the story due to the upcoming election.

In this episode, Kendall’s ex-wife Rava asks to meet with him and tells him that their daughter was pushed in the street by a group wearing shirts supporting Jeryd Mencken, the presidential candidate favored by ATN. Rava hopes that Kendall can do something about ATN’s influence.

Kendall is angry when he hears about the incident and even blames Rava for not being there to protect their daughter. The conversation between the two quickly turns into an argument about unrelated topics

Despite Kendall’s anger, it’s unlikely that he will make any changes to ATN’s coverage of the election, as the political race becomes increasingly heated as election day approaches.

4. Roman to Speak in Logan Roy’s Funeral

In Succession season 4 episode 7, it is revealed that Logan Roy’s funeral has not yet taken place and that Roman Roy will be speaking at the ceremony.

This is somewhat unexpected given the strained relationships between the Roy siblings and their father, although Roman was always the closest to Logan. However, given Roman’s tendency to speak his mind and cause trouble, there is a possibility that things could go wrong at the funeral.

Roman’s decision to speak at Logan Roy’s funeral could potentially create more tension between the Roy siblings, who have differing views on their father’s legacy. Roman loves him, Kendall despises him, and Shiv is focused on moving Waystar Royco forward.

These conflicting perspectives have caused clashes between the siblings in the past, and with the emotional nature of Logan Roy’s funeral, it is likely that this conflict will resurface.

5. Will Connor Roy drop out of the presidential elections?

Connor Roy, always sidelined from the main family in Succession, has had one major storyline throughout the series: his running for US president.

However, just hours before the polls open, Roman makes a strategic move by asking Connor to drop out of the race. Connor’s 1% of the vote is crucial to Mencken’s success, and in exchange for dropping out, Roman offers to get Connor a political job in a foreign country.

After some negotiation, they agree on Oman. However, in Connor’s last appearance in the episode, he suggests that he may stay in the race after all. So, nothing is confirmed yet. Connor may or may not drop out of the race.
