Xbox Cloud Gaming is set to introduce Streaming service at some point in 2024

Summary:

  • Microsoft Gaming’s CEO Phil Spencer has revealed some exciting details in an Xbox chat with a gamer.
  • It was revealed that the Xbox Cloud Gaming’s Streaming service is supposed to be released sometime in 2024.
  • There are many licensing issues that must be ironed out before the Streaming Service can be launched.

Xbox had promised that players could stream their games in 2019’s X019, which took place in London. Understandably, it was delayed because of the pandemic in 2020, and the release date of 2020 has since been pushed back.

Microsoft Gaming’s CEO Phil Spencer has revealed in an Xbox chat with a fan that the ability to stream purchased games will arrive in 2024. This will be a part of the Xbox Gaming Cloud Service.

The initial announcement in 2019 came after Project xCloud went public beta in the US, UK, and South Korea. The X019 event announced that players will be able to stream both Game Pass titles and “Xbox Games that they already own or will purchase” starting in 2020.

However, Microsoft continues to maintain official radio silence on the feature. It is understandable if the developers choose to make the streaming feature available only for the premium tier of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership.

The path to streaming games on the Xbox Cloud Connect is challenging. These are not just technical. There are a lot of legal issues as well.

Many licensing issues would have to be ironed out with third-party publishers. This is quite similar to why GeForce NOW is adding new games only every month, as new agreements are being reached every month.

The February 15th episode of the Official Xbox Podcast was explicitly focused on Microsoft’s future gaming strategy. It did have a mention of the company’s long overdue promise of a streaming service feature.

The feature could be announced anytime now, given that the CEO of Microsoft Gaming has practically put it out in the open. Until then, players can grind away at the currently offered Xbox Game Pass titles like Persona 3 Reloaded, Madden NFL 24, and Resident Evil 3
