Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has turned out to be a massive hit for the CoD franchise and gamers are finally enjoying the much-anticipated sequel. But the game still suffers from multiple crashes and various bugs.
Players have reported multiple repeated crashes on PC, even more so than on consoles. Infinity Ward has released a Week One Patch which has resolved some of the issues. If you’re still facing crashes even after updating the game, then follow the methods below:
1. Restart Your Game/PC
A simple restart might fix the problem for you. You can restart Modern Warfare 2 to see if the game works properly. If not, you may reboot your PC. Turn off your PC, unplug the power cord, wait for a few minutes, then restart it.
Some players have reported that simply rebooting their PC solved the multiple crashes they were facing earlier in the game.
2. Scan and Repair Game Files
Scanning and repairing game files may resolve the crashing issue. Game files that have been downloaded may be corrupted or suffered a setback during the download process. To scan and repair the files, follow the steps below:
I. For Battle.net Users
- Open Battle.net application
- Select the blue Gear icon next to the blue play button and press ‘Scan and Repair’.
- The game will then reload and the issue may be solved.
II. For Steam Users
- Right-click on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in your library
- Click on ‘Properties,’ then ‘Local Files’.
- Select the option to verify the integrity of the game files.
3. Update Graphics Drivers
Facing multiple crashes might be a sign that you haven’t updated your graphics drivers in a while. Nvidia has already deployed the Game Ready Driver called 526.47; for AMD, the Driver Version is 22.9.1. You can download it by heading to their official website.
Many users have also reported that downgrading to a previous driver has solved the problem. So, that’s worth a try as well.
4. Enable/Disable On-Demand Texture Streaming
On-Demand Texture Streaming is a technique employed by some game engines whereby textures are not fully loaded into memory at the start of a level or scene but are streamed on-demand as the player moves around. If you have it enabled, you may disable it and vice versa, to check whether the problem is fixed.
Enabling this option may put stress on the system resources, so you might want to disable it to see if the error is resolved. For those who already have it disabled but are still facing the problem, enable it and restart the game.
5. Disable Antivirus
This is one of the most traditional methods to solve a game crashing constantly. Oftentimes, it is found that antivirus or firewall program interference is causing games to crash multiple times. Turning it off could possibly solve the issue.
These programs are designed to protect your computer from harmful programs but can also block legitimate programs from running correctly. Hence, it’s possible that the antivirus is hindering the game to run smoothly.
If you’re still facing any kind of issue, contact Activision Support or wait until Infinity Ward deploys another patch at a later date.
