Stephen King Raves About Evil Dead Rise: “It’s Gruesome, It’s Bloody”

Lee Cronin’s horror sequel Evil Dead Rise has impressed the king of horror himself, Stephen King.

The movie is the latest addition to the long-running Evil Dead franchise, which began with Sam Raimi’s classic supernatural horror film The Evil Dead in 1981. The new film offers some new twists on the familiar story of demonic possession and gore.

Critics have already given it rave reviews, making it the highest-rated Evil Dead film on Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% score.

Recently, Stephen King praised the movie on Twitter, saying that it was full of gore, blood and even a blood-spewing elevator. He also mentioned the use of chainsaws as weapons, which is a trademark of the franchise.

King is famous for writing his own horror masterpieces like IT and The Shining, but he also likes to share his opinions about other horror works. He has given his thumbs up to several Evil Dead movies over the years. In fact, Evil Dead might not have become a successful franchise without King’s support.

He was one of the first to praise the original movie, writing about it in a Twilight Zone magazine article after seeing it in 1982. Here’s an excerpt from the piece:

“The Evil Dead has the simple, stupid power of a good campfire story — but its simplicity is not a side effect. It is something carefully crafted by Raimi, who is anything but stupid… who is so full of talent that anybody unable to get it together might bet tempted to wonder if gobbling the man’s fingernails could possibly do any good…”

King’s glowing endorsement of The Evil Dead helped it become a cult classic, leading to the highly praised 1987 sequel Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn and all the other Evil Dead media that followed.

Now, Evil Dead Rise continues the tradition started by Raimi’s original, and King still likes what the franchise has to offer in terms of bloody scares, gory visuals and exaggerated “chainsaw” sequences.
