Steam Deck Users Can Expect the Dock to Release in “Late Spring 2022”

The Steam Deck launches tomorrow on the 25th of February, and fans are waiting to test out just how well Valve’s handheld system can perform. As is the case with the Nintendo Switch and every handheld before it, some accessories have been announced for the Steam Deck. Most notable amongst these is the Steam Deck dock, which now has a release window.

The dock is an essential piece of the Steam Deck kit, as it allows you to connect your system to TVs and monitors. Valve has previously stated that the dock would be available as a standalone accessory but had not provided any release date.

Valve revealed the release window when detailing the launch of the Steam Deck, and according to them, it should be available for purchase in “late Spring 2022”. The release of the Steam Deck’s shell files will also allow players to create their own accessories, though they may not be able to do what the dock does.

This is the official word from Valve, but those keeping up with the history of the console had a tip that it might release around this time. It was made available for wishlisting on the Steam Deck page, which revealed a release window as “Spring 2022”. This was later edited to have lesser details and no release window. You can add the dock to your wishlist now, and the page has the release window once again.

The current page reads, “The official dock props up your Steam Deck while connecting to external displays, wired networking, USB peripherals, and power. You can also use a powered USB-C hub if you’ve got one lying around. The official dock will be sold separately. More information coming soon.”

The new, updated version reads as “The official dock will be sold separately. Add it to your Steam Wishlist to get notified when it’s available to order. Coming Spring 2022.”

Valve has also re-confirmed the launch details of the Steam Deck and revealed that reservation holders for the first wave of shipments should start getting emails from 10 am PT/1 pm ET/6 pm GMT. They will have 72 hours to purchase the Steam Deck before the reservation is passed onto the next person in the queue.
