Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 8 Recap
After Book and Tarka steal the Spore Drive prototype, Starfleet commissions an extensive search to look for them. Book and Tarka intend to attack Species 10C with this weapon after they have collected all the parts to make it – a direct violation of the of the United Federation’s decision to make peaceful contact with them first.
Book is hesitant about going against the Federation but Tarka believes that destroying the anomaly will get them off the hook. Book reaches out to a contact to source isolinium for the weapon. Burnham reviews the data and decides to contact an information broker as she believes they might be able to tell her about Book’s location. She later realizes that Book is meeting with the same contact to get isolinium.
Lieutenant Joann Owosekun, who is accompanying Burnham offers to take part in a high stakes cage match in an attempt to outbid Book for the isolinium. Despite their best attempts, Book manages to secure the isolinium for himself to proceed with the weapon building with Tarka. The situation becomes more dire as new information about boronite mining is brough to light and President Rillak commands Burnham and Vance to stop Book and Tarka by any means necessary.
