Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 Episode 11 Recap
The Discovery is on its way to making contact with Species 10C after a special delegation had been put forward for this purpose. However, Book and Tarka have their own plans to destroy the anomaly rather than join the diplomatic effort. Tarka develops another experimental device with the purpose of reaching the anomaly’s power source and deactivating it.
Captain Burnham and Saru insist on leading a small landing party to undergo the mission, despite President Rillak’s reservations. With their arrival on the planet, the landing party discovers problems with their sensors. They also see mass graves, pointing to the fact that the natives endured many casualties. Saru starts to experience discomfort due to sensory overload and feelings of despair and anxiety and they discover it’s being caused by the planet’s dust. Detmer resolves the issue by developing a filtration system.
Meanwhile, Book and Tarka teleport aboard the Discovery to plant their device. Book overhears concerns about the anomaly destroying Earth before a diplomatic resolution is made. He privately meets with Ndoye and persuades her to let him and Tarka carry forward their plan in case the diplomatic mission fails. The landing party discovers that the hydro-carbons in their air are how Species 10C communicates, and they send them the labs to be deciphered so they can figure out a way to communicate with them.
