Will S1 actors return as twins? Squid Game Director Talks about S2

Netflix’s dystopian thriller Squid Game took home two awards and made history at the 27th Critics Choice Awards held on March 13 in Los Angeles.

In a red carpet interview with Variety at the same event, the director shared that Squid Game Season 2 is very well in his mind, and it will have Gi-hun returning for something big.

It’s here (pointing to his head). Not on the page, it’s here. Everything is secret. I cannot tell anything. But he will come back and do something for the world.

While pointing to Lee Jung-jae and sharing his return, the director glanced at Jung Ho-yeon. The interviewer picked on it and asked the actress and Park Hae-soo to feature in the sequel “in a dream sequence.”

Before the actors could reply, Hwang Dong-hyuk jokingly replied that he might “make their twin sister and brother so they can show up.”

Meanwhile, veteran actor Lee Jung-jae, who essayed the role of Payer 456 or Seong Gi-hun, took home the Best Actor in a Drama Series award. He has now become the first Korean actor to receive the coveted trophy at a Critics Choice Award.

Squid Game even won the Best Foreign Language Series, overthrowing Money Heist, Acapulco, Call My Agent!, Narcos: Mexico, and Lupin.

Lee Jung-jae competed against some of the best-known Hollywood actors such as Sterling K. Brown for This Is Us, Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong for Succession, Billy Porter for Pose, and Mike Colter for Evil.

The thrilling series was also nominated for Best Drama Series. However, it lost to HBO’s Succession.

Lead actors Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, and Jung Ho-yeon attended the 27th Critics Choice Awards and the show’s director, Hwang Dong-hyuk. The trio even served as presenters for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television.

Squid Game is a South Korean survival show written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk. The nine-episode series released on Netflix on September 17, 2021 and has become an internet sensation.
