5. MISSION 42 Plot
Mission 42 focuses on Anya and her classmates as they get caught up in an urban myth – The Pastries of Knowledge. The chapter starts with Anya and Becky role-playing with their matching sheep accessory.
Becky tells Anya that they will be split up soon as the school will group kids up based on their intellect.
They overhear some seniors talking about a limited supply of The Pastries of Knowledge being available in the cafeteria today on account of a former Head Chef visiting the school.
This amps up the duo, who find themselves competing with Damian and his group for the pastries.
They manage to get their hands on 4 pieces, however, there are 5 of them. This leads them into playing the Old Maid to determine who doesn’t get a piece. Anya uses her telepathy to easily win, but she gets accused of cheating.
To keep her powers a secret, she asks them for a rematch and tries to get a few of them wrong so her powers aren’t revealed.
In the end, two remain – Damian and Anya. Damian lets Anya win on purpose to stop her from crying. As consolation, Anya offers half of her piece to Damian, but he refuses. Then they proceed to eat the pastry and Anya gets amped up and studies the entire night
Towards the end of the chapter, we find out that this pastry did not increase their intellect at all since all of them fail in a quiz. Anya then goes home with her result and has a heartwarming moment with her family as a happy ending to the chapter.

Spy × Family is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.
The story follows a spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realizing that the girl he adopts as a daughter and the woman he agrees to be in a fake marriage with are a mind reader and an assassin respectively.
