After hearing Klaus’ request, C assigns Lamplight a relatively simple mission: investigate a local restaurant where Galgad agents are suspected of exploiting it as a front to trade drugs. Klaus sends the job to Annette in response to her request for extra cash for a project she’s working on.
While the rest of Lamplight is skeptical that Annette, who is generally chaotic, can focus on the assignment, they are astounded by how competent she is in impersonating a server. Sara notes that Annette is exceptionally talented and adaptive but only shows it when she is sufficiently driven.
Lamplight eventually discovers that the drug gang is dealing cannabis through lavatory graffiti. They catch the ring’s manager but have no clues on the true mastermind. Later that night, Annette ambushes a diner who had harassed her earlier at the restaurant, who also proves to be the spy behind the drug network.
Klaus apprehends the spy and tells Annette that dealing with demanding customers isn’t part of her job. C assigns Klaus a new mission the next day. He then informs Lamplight that he will bring the entire squad to the United States of Mouzaia to find Serpent.
